ROAR!! I am so fed up (fence fight with renters dog)

Today when I got home I thought it would be good to go out back with the dogs in the new 18 inches of fresh powder snow. Me and Jade were playing fine then I see the vacation renters with kids playing on the hill next to my fence (as usual). But they were sledding a different direction and not hitting my fence so I relaxed and went back to playing. Then I see they have a Jack Russel and it is charging my fence full force and tries to bite Dozer through the fence. Dozer gets a nip on this little dog through the chain link but it just goes nuts and keeps trying to get at my dogs. Jade and Duncan were right next to Dozer but more calm. The lady (err) grabs the JR's leash and jerks him back causing him to backflip and drags him away. I tell her "My black dogs do not like little dogs at all, keep it away please" She nodded her head and walked away. I called my dogs back and checked Dozer for injury but he was clean. So we headed back up the stairs to go inside but all the sudden I hear dog fight and dog screaming. I turn around and there is Dozer with a mouth full of Jack Russel nose and foot in Dozer's mouth and the rest on the other side of the fence. Dozer was trying to pull this dog through the fence. I ran and yelled at Dozer and he released the dog and it ran off to the renters. There was blood all over the place and I checked in Dozer's mouth and didn't find any parts. They guy starts yelling at me like a crazed idiot. Barely speaking any english at all. I think French or Portugese. I tell him I warned his wife about the dogs and he says she doesn't speak english. Then I reply you were 15 feet away did you hear me tell her? He startes yelling again so I pulled my keys out of my pocket and started unlocking the gate. He asked what I was doing and I told him I was going to come out there to talk to him and see if he still wanted to yell at me. He said no stay away we are going to find a vet. Now I am waiting to see what happens next.

What the hell do we have to do to protect our dogs from stupid people? I am calling the sherrif and filling a complaint right now.

Whoa...Mike as you know stupidity is a disease which there is no cure for. I think you might want to invest in that barrier we were talking about.

No sign on that side of the property. I am going to put up more reed fence covering as soon as I can. Shirrif said they got the complaint from them already and told me not to worry my dog is not at fault. He also said the JR will most likely lose it's leg but may not survive. Poor dog has stupid owners.

You know, when I finish law school next year, I'm going to make it a point to represent fellow dog owners against absurdities like that. I have zero tolerance for animal cruelty (including stupid owners), and so help me God, when I eventually make it on the bench as a Judge, they will get what's coming to them.

the danes next door and my dogs aint getting along. They tend to start barking at my dogs and it's on. Gonna have to do something to hide that short section. The rest has a woods buffer. So it's hard to really see

I have about 20 feet of 6 foot tall rolled reed I can put up. I will just buy a roll every paycheck until I can cover the whole fence all around the property. It will kill my Hops but it's better than this.

I got a roll as well. ahahaha. I think I'll do that and some plants. They got an acre fenced in the back so that 30ft section wont make much diff

Wow, what a shitty situation. Why the hell would they let their dog run back over there a second time after being so lucky the first time?

Sorry that this happened Mike. I also feel sorry for the kids who may have lost their dog. Regardless of the situation, there is still a little dog that has been mauled in front of some young kids and having a niece who witnessed her own dog being mauled by a German Shepherd (different situation as she was walking the dog and the German Shepherd was roaming free out of his yard), it can be very traumatic.

Not saying it is your fault but I do feel for the kids. The parents, on the other hand, really need to own up to their own responsibility You gave them a warning and they continued to allow the dog to go to the fence.

I would invest in something more than a chain link fence though to prevent this from happening again. How thick are your links? There is no way a Jack Russel could be pulled through my fence, even a little bit, as the links are really small.

Well the JR died (PTS). Crushed leg, punctured snout, fractured skull and lost an eye. They drove it down the mountain to an emergency vet and they told them to put it down. They got back up around 10pm and the dad came over and confronted me at my gate and told me what happened. I stepped out ot the yard then he accused me of being at fault, I told him that it was his fault and he punched me in the chest, I saw it coming but knew it was no big deal but then he took a swing at my face so I grabbed his arm and spun him around and held his throat. His wife was close to my driveway so I yelled at her to call 911. Here is the kicker, she says "why?" then I realized she can speak English and he had lied. He didn't move at all so I told him I could let him go or I could put him out so he better calm down. So I pushed him away face first into the snow bank.
So I am standing there in my shorts and t-shirt and slip-ons in 20 degree weather with this idiot. I told his wife again I would love you to call the police. Because I just recorded your husband assaulting me on my property, and I pointed to the camera in my window. The guy got up and looked and said you almost killed me, I told him yes I could have but you attacked me first, now go away and be with your kids I have cameras all over this house and have taken a picture of your car and license and I spoke to the police too. I am sorry for your dog and children but not for you. If you come back to my property I will not allow you to attack me again. The whole time this was going on Jade was losing her mind inside the yard. This morning he was out cleaning up the bloody snow, I think for the children's sake.
What really sucks is that my camera was not on and I really don't have any evidence of him hitting me. But at least he thinks I do.

northern, my chain-link is standard size, not that thin stuff. I am not sure how Dozer got such a bit on the JR but you could see him jerking back trying to pull it through.

Wow...just wow. I am sorry you are having to deal with this. I am sorry for the children of the renter, but not for the renters themselves. It bothers me immensely that people will let their dogs do whatever they want and then when something happens, it is never their fault. Like you, I don't know how the JR got through the fence like that but then again, dogs are amazing animals and do have ways of finding themselves in unexpected situations.

thanks, well the first time he got nipped he had stuck his nose through the chain-link. I am thinking he did the same thing and his paw slipped through the next hole and Dozer just grabbed it. If it had just been the nose or leg it would have been so much more ugly. The shoulder actually prevented Dozer from pulling it through the fence. I have seen him pull a squirrel through before and it pretty much tears it in half. This happens when the squirrel is running away and it jumps through the fence and Dozer catches a part of it or the tail. Most times the tail gets broke off, but once in awhile he gets a leg and it's all over for the tree rat.
