Like Chuck said... It isnt impossible but it does take time and most of all patience. it is a long road ahead of you but with alot of hotdogs, a careful eye (watching when the dog is about to do something and correcting it before he does it), and the ability for everyone involved to be very calm it shouldnt take more than a week for a mild temp case and no more than a month with a very hard case. This is ofcourse if you do this daily.

Ok, so who are the GOOD/GREAT rescues? We were looking into RPBR and now I'm glad I came across this forum! We lost our boxer in Feb due to cancer and when we are ready to get another dog we would like a bullmastiff again (had one in the past as well). So who are the reputable rescues close to western Canada/US? Any advice would be appreciated as we haven't gone the rescue path before, just had adopted from reputable breeders.
Thanks!
Ev

Hi Bearspaws! We just adopted a wonderful EM girl from Mastiff Rescue Oregon http://www.mastiffrescueoregon.org/ The HQ is in McMinnville OR, but they have a network of foster parents all around Portland OR/Vancouver WA. The girl we adopted was actually rescued from Southern Oregon so they have a wide operating radius. Not sure where you are located. They do a great job screening prospective adoptive parents (and their homes). They DO call your references & vet too. All the dogs are spayed/neutered, patched-up as needed, shots brought up to date, and micro-chipped. Both the Rescue Director and the foster mom were straightforward & honest about the good/bad behaviors. They currently have 6 dogs available.

OOPS! Sorry! I noticed you were interested in a Bullmastiff, not EM AFTER I posted this.

Hey all! I have another personal horror story to add to this thread but I just discovered this forum actually looking up complaints about her on goolge and found you all but I have to get to bed. I will be sure to add mine tomorrow. Although I can add my gorgeous cane corso in that pic is still here with us. I am an animal behaviorist/trainer and she ended up in the best place for her. I will be sure to share tomorrow :) But you all hit the nail on the head! That woman is a horror! We couldn't leave Bella though. We knew she was sick. I wasn't and idiot. My husband and I would have given her a thousand for Bella if that meant to get her away from that BEAST of a woman! Bella may be a complicated girl but she came for a reason and we love her to death. Chat soon!

OMG. I am new to this forum but this posting caught my eye... I am from Washington State and a few years back I actually was looking to get my first mastiff and had emailed back and forth with this woman from Rising Phoenix... I told her that this would be my first mastiff, and I told her what I was looking for in a dog and about my lifestyle etc. and asked her recommendation, since not many people have any kind of Mastiffs where I live. I told her I wanted to be protected, but I also had alot of people coming through my property so I wasn't looking for a "guard" specifically I just wanted to know that if I was being ATTACKED or something, that I would be protected. Mostly I just want a velcro dog, as I am very clingy and affectionate with my dogs and I am looking for a dog who feels the same about me. She tried to talk me into getting a Fila and I told her I didn't feel that a Fila would be right for me as we have a home business and we have Fed Ex, UPS, Mailman, etc. coming through our property daily. She insisted that she had a special fila who was nothing like the breed standard and showed no signs of aggression or territorial dominance. She buttered me up so much that I was seriously thinking about it, but in the end I had a bad feeling in my gut and as much as I respect Fila's for what they are, I did not want to risk the dogs natural instincts coming out at the wrong timing. I decided against it and our conversations never went further.

Upon seeing this Thread, I went to Zootoo and read the reviews...... I am SO GLAD that I never proceeded. Not only for the sake of all the health issues I saw people posting about, whipworms and etc.... But I heard several people saying that the dogs they adopted had temperament problems, and the ones that were returned were immediately reposted for adoption with no warning of behavior issues...... I am pretty stunned that she would take a teenager (I am 25 now but was only a teenager at the time and living with my parents) and try to convince her into getting a "non-guarding" Fila when she knows that not only is it my first mastiff, but also that I living in a home where I have fed ex men, mail man, UPS guys and everything else filing through my property on a regular basis.

I have never had a Fila, so MAYBE she was telling the truth. But from everything I've read on the breed, while I would have had a velcro dog like I wanted, the rest of the situation would have been incredibly risky and entirely innappropriate and especially dangerous when it comes to someone inexperienced with the mastiff breed in general....

i dont know about the US law but from what i read, there could be a keeping the dogs in inhuman condition's if she is re-posting dogs with aggression problems and asking money for them there is a miss representational of goods in there, probably lot of other little thing that animal control could fine her for its getting prof of it for them to be able to take to court,

---------- Post added at 10:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 AM ----------

right i have bin thinking how we could close her down, first can some one get in contact with animal control, to fined out what they would need to prove she was dealing in dangerous dogs, then fine a dog she has listed that we have already bin told has aggression problems, this is the hared part we need 2 members of the forum willing to spend money, to bay the dog have health and teprament tests don, then get email and phone conversants where she says the dog has no problems, then send the dog back to her telling her the problems with it, then another member get in contact when it is re-listed and do the same, this should be what animal control need to prove this woman needs closing down, i would be willing to make a contributory to the cost i am shore other members would as well to stop these pore dogs form being used by her for profit not there health and well being, i know it seems a lot but it mite be the only way to close her down, the first step is to get hold of animal control, it has to be done right for it to stand up in court

There is a group on facebook who is trying to shut her down. They have help from an attorney but they can't seem to catch her. I guess she moves when they find out where she is. I posted the link to the facebook page a few pages back. It's private because she hires people to watch facebook to see who is bashing her or going after her. She's very evil and needs to die.

Your dog is so adorable!! Good for you for doing research and sharing it with us. Something isn't right with that rescue and I am glad you have let us know. I also rescued a English/bull mastiff cross and I had a terrific experience. She is the greatest addition to our family and the biggest joy in my life.

Last I knew, it is still in operation. The facebook page is private. I no longer have the link. :( They've been trying to shut this woman down for years.

Hello, I adopted a Great Dane female from Rising Phoenix last September. It was reported that she was spayed the day prior to the adoption and she had an incision. Should I get an ultrasound to make sure?

with what i have read i would have your vet tack a look, they will know if the scaring under the skin feels right for a neutering, if they are not shore i would have an ultrasound dune, i would have her tested for the right levels for vaccination as well to make shore that is ok as well, a full health check would be good,

Wow! I truly feel for this woman's dogs. What a horrible thing to do, pose as a rescue.

Yet this is becoming more common. And people are abusing Petfinder.

A couple of years ago I was searching Petfinder for an English Bulldog after losing my faithful bully. There weren't but a few puppies listed. Most of the dogs available were seniors or at least 3-4 years old. But there was one rescue that had 4-5 puppies listed. I was estatic. So I contacted them.

The rescue was located in the midwest. They said they got their bulldogs from a breeder - they were breeder discards. (WTF does that mean?) Then I asked how much they were. She told me $1500. But I thought rescue meant not for profit. She said that she had to pay the breeder that price.

So, basically she was a puppy broker posing as a rescue. Needless to say, I did not get a dog from her.

Thank you for sharing. If the word got out to more people, then this so called rescue would not be able to peddle their dogs for profit and eventually they would move on to some other scam. The best way to hurt these operations is to get them in their pocketbook.

I am typing up a very long summary to fill you all in on what I am working on. I have tracked aliases to GA, FL, CA, TX, MS, and WA. It's not anything I maybe able to shut her down but hopefully something to hand to the IRS. At this point with my criminal justice background and the computer in front of me I knew I had to do something. This is all civilian and google but at least I will be able to share with you all what I dug up AND it is all public knowledge. I am just trying to get familiar with WA nonprofit laws b/c she has not filed yet for her 501(c)(3) yet she has held a WA UBI non profit status for 3 years 302969417. She has filed with WA SOS Reg # 32252 and gave them a EIN but I want to know where she got that EIN 27-3574490 (27 means it originated via internet) she maybe filling under another nonprofits name but I should still be able to find something. This is a GROUP code. I need to find out some laws as far as the business license saying nonprofit. I have WAY more to share. Have to head to bed. Pups are tired. My other boy had his yearly today.
