I know they can put up with cold, but can they handle heat? My friend is looking for a dog to put with her goats, but we live in Florida (US). It's very warm & humid here for 8 months out of the year. The biggest threat to the goats is coyote, then bobcats. I'm sure these dogs could hold their own, if they don't collapse from the heat.

unlike what people think the CAO can withstand extreme temperatures with no problem ...they are designed to walk for miles with nomads and lambs and sheep in central asia in any weather. although of course they prefer the cold but they can also take the heat as long as they have enough water. overhere it can get above 100 and i had no problems.as far as guarding against wild animals it is the supreme breed called volkodav or wolfcrusher or wolfkiller no other breed besides the caucasian shepherd can equal them in that task. they are gentle with domesticated animals like goats and lamb. now for the purpose of guarding goat in florida i would not go for super huge size i would go for a female or a male that is medium size in the 130 to 160 lbs range the super huge ones tend to be lazy and are better suited for property guarding but in the end its just a matter of preference .
