I totally agree, too bad we are getting our EM and then in a couple months my husband wants a English Bulldog. I hate looking at craigslist and finding all the people who just discard their dogs for whatever lame excuse. There's 2 different people in my town that are "rehoming" their EM's, 1 is 1 and the other is 1 1/2 yrs old. One says cuz of peeing in the house, the other says he can't find a place that will allow him to have his mastiff. They both want $500 and say that they are still intact.
I figure if you are selling your dog on craigslist, you should at least neuter him or spay her first!!!

Jenn your not the only one, on my way to work today I saw a dog crossing a ramp getting ready to enter the highway, unfortunatley I was too far ahead to do anything, I don't know what happened but more than likey the dog didn't make it. Shortly after that there were some Canadian Geese with babies no less, crossing the street people were flying right by them couple of people almost hit them. I don't know how they made out either. People are selfish, hateful, and spiteful to one another what chance does a "lower lifeform" stand in this "sociey"

I HATE THAT!!! Especially when I, like you, are physically incapable of doing something before it is too late. I tear up everytime I see something like that happening, Humans just going on about their day ignoring the potential ending of a life, or the sufferring or pain of an aminal or even another human for that matter. It sickens me to my core, the way a person treats an animal that walks this earth or flies the skies, I believe, is truly indicative of how they treat humans and how little they value the gift of live, and how much others people or animal matter. If you see something about to happen and you have the a chance, however slight it may be, to stop it, why would you not try. At the very least if you could not stop it, you would be right there when it happens and maybe could change the outcome.

CL makes me sick...I see all the dogs on there and want to rescue them all!

Whatever happened to honoring the commitment you made to care for the animal for the entirety of it's life when you decided to get it? Our society is such a throw away society it is disgusting!

I better stop now...once I get on a roll it'll be hard to stop!

I 2nd this! Some humans just suck when it comes to taking responsibility and care for their dogs.

I can't go on Kijiji anymore, like craigslist its full of idiots. I sometimes wonder if these people would give away their children because they pee on the floor, have temper tantrums, and chew the window sills. There should be a course that people need to take in order to have children or animals
It makes my gut turn thinking of what these dogs have been through to what they MIGHT end up enduring.
I sometimes think of where Murphy could have ended up if we didn't adopt him. He/we are the lucky ones.
There has to be something done about this crap. And a rehoming fee.....SERIOUSLY! You shouldn't want money for something you were suppose to love. I speak for all k-9's not just mastiffs "when did we become disposable?"

I agree with rehoming the owners to a dirty, mean place first.

I agree 100%. I have always adopted. We took a HUGE risk with our 2 new doggies, buti'm glad we did. They are in tact so alot of other people would have bred them. I love them dearly, but their pups would be trainwrecks. After all of my experiences with adopting and a couple of just grabbing random strays up I have my heart set on a TRUE EM pup from a reputable breeder. I want to experience everything
I have missed out on.

As a species, I have no use for humans. Having said that, I have seen people go out of their way to save a critter from getting hurt. When I moved back to Michigan from Tulsa, there was a traffic jam on the main street of the little town we moved to. It was our first trip into town, Sunday morning. Turns out a flock of turkeys was trying to cross the street. The tom would wander out into the street, the hens would follow; he would change his mind & go back, the hens would follow. All traffic was stopped until the dummies decided where they wanted to go. A man & I finally got out of our cars & herded them across the street. Pretty funny.
As I was going to the hospice house with Ruby for pet therapy, the guy ahead of me stood on his brakes. No one ahead of him; I couldn't see any reason for stopping. He jumped out of his car, ran to the front, picked up a turtle, and put it on the other side of the ditch, away from the road.

Maybe these little stories will help you feel better about the human race. I know it doesn't happen often enough.

[h=2]Dotson puppy (sarasota)[/h]
Date: 2012-09-03, 6:54PM EDT

I have a 7 month old Dotson puppy that i bought from someone who couldnt take care of him anymore
a few months ago. We call him Puppy. He is so precious and loving. He cuddles with you and you can hold him in just one arm.
He gets along very well with my 2 year old son and my other dog witch is an American bulldog.
With our schedules being at work a lot we dont have the time to potty train the dog right so we are looking
to re home him. Trust me he is worth every penny. I am torn to have to give him to someone
else but he needs someone who can pay more attention to him and train him right. We do not have papers and
are not sure if the person who had him before gave him his shots. If you are interested please email me with any questions.
By the way in the picture he looks alot bigger then he really is. :)

What I absolutely cannot stand & someone probably already mentioned it on this thread is the people that will buy, adopt, what have you, a young puppy 6-10 weeks old, keep it for 2 weeks then be like "ohhhh I can't handle this!!! Let me sell it for more than I paid for it & I'll justify that because of all the stuff from Walmart I bought for it". I ALWAYS see people on there "selling" their dogs for way more than a reasonable rehoming fee. I more so see this with people trying to sell bulldog puppies. They want anywhere from $1200 & up. With that being said I do understand what goes into breeding bulldogs & why REPUTABLE breeders will charge that much. But I doubt any reputable breeders would post ads on CL.

I see craigslist like I see an accident on the side of the road. You try to avoid it but you just can't help but look. I guess you really can't fix stupid. And people wonder why there is a never ending supply of unwanted pets in shelters getting euthanized each day. But hey...let's keeping breeding Dog X & Dog Y just because it's fun & the puppies are cute. Idiots.

I recommend people watch a documentary on dogs and that will change their minds on rehoming a dog if they actually have any sense of morality. I know it did for us. Actually, this summer we were faced with the difficult decision of rehoming Petey (our lab). My husband has severe allergies to dogs but he has learned to live with him. When he was a kid he had to take injections to deal with the allergy but now it only seems to affect him with certain coat types. Anyway, the only dog that bothers him in the house is Petey. He can bury his face in Daisy and Rascal but if Petey sits even two feet from him during "allergy season", he has an allergic reaction. Every year it has been getting worse and what started out as one or two weeks a year 9 years ago is now a good 2 months straight of severe hay fever symptoms twice a year. With the heat this year, Petey was shedding worse than he ever has before and my husband finally cracked and said, "I hate myself for saying this but I can't take this anymore. We may have to rehome him or I may have to move out when he is blowing coat."

A few days later, I was watching a documentary that is out on dogs and they showed dogs being euthanized with gas. It was horrible but I watched it and my husband watched it. By the end, he turned to me with tears in his eyes and said, "You know, when you think about rehoming a dog, you think that he will go to a home where someone will love him as much as you do but that isn't the reality. If we rehomed Petey, he would probably end up in one of those gas chambers and his last moments in life would be one of absolute terror. I can't let that happen to my boy so allergies or not, he is staying with us until his last day."

I understand why people can rehome but I hate craigslist and kijiji because if people had actually thought out their actions, those dogs wouldn't be there. Just really sad. I try to avoid looking there as it usually makes my blood boil, especially when you see the ads that say, "She/He is intact so you could breed her/him and make some money from the puppies."

Is it a car, or a dog?

It's a dog! Never heard of a DOTSON.

A Dotson is a pretty common nickname for the Dachshund. My mom's husband had a Dachshund and we always referred to him as a Dotson.

And we always referred to my mom's husband as my mom's husband (or occassionally by his first name or by our very own special nickname, but we won't get into that. LOL:p)

northern, are you referring to that documentary that was on HBO? I can't remember the name of it but I remembering seeing the section about the gassing. I cried so hard. I got the whole "warning: graphic/disturbing images ahead" thing just before but now I wish I would've not watched that part. I guess it's good in the sense to show people exactly what they are potentially doing to dogs by continuing to overbreed & overpopulate the country, but absolutely horrible to watch. :(

Yes, that was the one. I was crying very hard after watching it. I kept thinking they wouldn't show anything but then they did and by that point, it was too late, I had already seen it.
