  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Kimber's been taken into custody!!

IMO, no one should approach a dog they do not know and the dog does not know them and put their face in the dog's face, especially children. That is a behavior that could end in someone getting very hurt.

Its not a fear reaction when someone gets in a dog's face. Getting in a dog's face is a highly aggressive move.

Certinally spend time getting your dog used to people around his face, but don't allow strangers to do so, its your responsibility to stop them, not your dog's to allow strangers to act aggressively.

This is my fear :( I can't even begin to imagine what you were going through. I'm glad that you were able to get her back without much BS. It sucks for the other family's dog but MY dogs come first. Especially when the owners are in the "wrong."

Personally even though the GSD owners screwed up I would not bother them about compensation. They have already paid a heavy price for stupidity. Unless you really need the help with the bills of course. Just my thoughts on this.

This is kind of the way we're feeling about the whole situation. I'm torn between being pissed at their outright negligence and hurting for them because they lost their dog. I tend to be the more understanding type, but it's hard to be so understanding when their actions were deliberate. I'm sure they didn't know it'd happen and I hope that this is just a screwy situation that everyone can learn from. Like I said, they seem remorseful. They've offered to take care of the bills on our end which came out to be $953 between X-rays, vet visit, medication, and quarantine. We're giving them 2 weeks to make good on their word and we won't go through the courts. It's not about the money though. In my eyes, they're stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility so we're going to give them the chance.

Kimber is doing okay right now. We've resumed her walks and she seems to handle it well. We've switched routes and walk times to ease her back into it. Her behavior towards our other dogs has changed though. She hasn't been putting up with our labs crap so we've had to seperate them a few times. I'm sure it's because she's sore and he just wants to play. Can't feel too bad for her though when she's going nuts for raw steaks. Hubs is spoiling her right now!

If they're willing to, and do, pay the bills, then personally thats all I'd ask for in a suit anyway. And they're likely getting tickets from the AC for off leash and dangerous dog and what not anyway....

I'm so glad Kimber is doing better. I expect there will be some Post Traumatic symptoms. A steady forward pace like you are providing is good. There will come a time when - and this is based on human behaviour, but I think you can extrapolate the lesson - she will require firm domination, she will test the waters of who is alpha because the rules have been blurred by recent events, and by the extra care and spoiling she is getting. But, she will fall back into place, all the puzzle pieces will.

As for the GSD's owners, if they fulfill their obligation to you in a timely manner, then let the matter drop. The world is too litigious as it is and lawsuits are stressful and costly beyond belief. Additionally, as Ruthcatrin pointed out, there will be penalties placed on them by the AC. No one wins in a situation like this, but a fair balance seems to have been negotiated. The only thing I would have asked for is that they pay for a behavioural therapist/trainer for Kimber to ensure that she recovers her balance.

Everyone here has felt your situation personally and viscerally. If it was our dog, our family in danger, our child in the carriage.... I think we've all been gripped by the fear. I don't know how many members there are in the Forum, but I believe we're all standing solidly behind you. God Bless.
