Just taking a poll on how long it took you to potty train your Mastiff?

I'd have to guesstimate it took Junior a little over 2 weeks.
We got him when he was 13 weeks old though.

Our EM Zeus was amazing. He was potty trained in less than a week. He just figured it out so fast. Treat potty training ftw

BIG, our 14 month old mastiff, took no time at all. I think he had maybe 2-3 accidents, but he always went outside. He was amazing! :)

Bonez, our 6 month old mastiff, took maybe 2 weeks.

Our Bullmastiff, Loki, took a couple months, even crate training. The poor girl came from 60 degree weather to -20's so I think that had something to do with it. She loved to go potty in her crate...wanted to stand on my feet in the snow. Now she is accident free though.

It took us about 2 weeks, but we trained with treats. Every time he scratched to go out to potty, every time he did his business outside, he got a treat. If he did his business in the house, especially if he had just come back in, we said "bad dog" very stern (not yelling!) and ignored him for at least 3 minutes after we finished cleaning up. My parents trained their dogs with the nose rubbing method and still have issues from a 3 year old lab. Our EM, on the other hand, hasn't had an accident since he was 10 weeks old. He is 7 months old now, btw.

Our breeder had the litter done at 6 weeks, so the only accidents were entirely MY fault as she asked and I wasn't paying attention.

We've had jenny for about 3 weeks now.... She turned 11 weeks yesterday. She is probably 95% there now ?? Been accident free for a few days now.... and the accidnets are 90% our fault and 10% hers ( like when she just comes in from potty and goes on the floor )

She learned so quickly.... I agree, Crate training is great !

It took Lu about a week, but I took a 4 day weekend off when we brought him home and I stayed right on top of him nonstop. No accidents for those 4 days and it was all good from there.

It took Dino about 2 days with accidents once in a while after that because we weren't paying attention :p

Do any of you have doggie doors? I have had doggie doors for my dogs for years when I had newfies. Currently have two poms and am looking at an English Mastiff. When I am not home my dogs are kenneled in the laundry room and back hall with a doggie door into the side yard so they can be in the air conditioning or go outside as they see fit. Little dogs are a PITA to potty train. i never had any dificulty with the newfies and a doggie door so am thinking iw =t will work the same with a mastiff. Anyone else use doggie doors?

We've had 4 large dogs that were all potty trained as pups using a doggy door. You still have to get the pup to learn that it has to go outside first then work in the doggy door. No accidents once their trained. It releives us from having to take them in and out. When we travel with our dogs and no doggy door like in hotels and familys houses we feel the chore that it is to take the dogs in and out to go potty. It makes us really appreciate our doggy door.

Ive talked to my wife about getting one. The dog is already trained but we leave him in the house when we leave for anything less than 4 hours(no crate) (should have), and while its as hot as it is now we will drag him around with us to keep him from having to bake in the yard if we have to be gone for any real length of time. The only downside for us is, He likes to dig holes and we were a bit afaid of what he might drag into the house while we are gone. Personally, I dont believe that he would leave the house other than to pee/poop anyway. Im still for the doggy door. you can also get the kind that lock closed too.

Yeah, I have been researching different doggie doors for the new pup. The old one I had would blow open in a slight breeze which was pretty chilly in the family room! I had it blocked into a window for my Newf. My husband (then boyfriend) was less than impressed with the security in my house with a doggie door he could fit through until I asked him if he WOULD crawl through a doggie door that size if he didn't know the dog on the other side? That was the end of the discussion. Would be even more the case with a mastiff. I won't have another house without a good spot for a doggie door. When we moved hubby was looking for a 3 car garage and I was looking for dog zoning. :)
