Help me figure out what breed to get next

I think the Cane corso is your best choice.
They are protective, couragious, my Zoey is super social with other social dogs, she adores all of my sons friends that come over and
They are all adults, she loves little kids you should have seen her on Halloween with all the trick or treaters, however she got suspitious when adults and big kids came to the door.
She allows the gardners in the yard and the housekeepers in the house and the housekeepers love her and now that alsp love the puppy Abby.
Neither are wanderers and they will stay in our small unfenced front yard and not go into the street or off the property except for visiting the neighbors dog through the fence.
I have fallen in love with the Corsos I dont think you can go wrong with one.

I am open to any and all mastiff breeds. I have followed Mike on here learning about Jade.

Unfortunately when researching the EM I never looked at any other mastiff breed. I had my heart set on the EM and i wouldn't change her for the world. That is why I am asking for help with my next one. lol

Just to confuse the issue have you considered the Boerboel?

LOL.

Does Hector allow people in your home wo being caged? sorry I can't recall his temp.

I think he loves my handy man more than me sometimes!! He's kind of nervous around his wifey. We will see what happens when handyman returns in the spring lol. These are complete strangers from the beginning. I have no friends, but my bf's family comes over. He has a big family so lots of kids and adults pop up here and there. In the beginning at 4 months he was scared of kids because he had never seen any until I got him. Now he just loves kids to death. He follows them and doesn't knock them over and tries to get the kids to play. Different members have come through and they are still in one piece. I know Hector and he doesn't have much of the fila temperament, at least not on the surface. No, I don't cage Hector unless person is afraid or if he's gotten too wild.

You know my preference.
Here is how I look at the mastiffs. Please don't be offended as this is my own personal views and preferences
BM used in home protection and is used in guarding the diamond and gold mines in Africa but has a short face and possible breathing issues and a wet mouth. I do not know the temperament.

Boerboel used in home/farm protection and is used in guarding the diamond and gold mines in Africa, dryer mouth good with kids does not need to be locked away when guests arrive longer life than other mastiffs good head made for hot and cold climates, choices of colors are pretty good (except black or blue faux BBs) excellent temperament.

TMs awesome looks very protective looks that kill, does well in all climates, nice and big. Downside is the fur and that they may need to be put up when guests arrive (not sure about that) how are they with kids?

Rotties great dogs all of the best things in a mastiff type dog fairly dry mouth, and if looks could kill they got it. Down side is they are prone to bone cancer and other cancer types, HD and heart problems.

CC, I got nothing. I do not know enough about them to comment.
PC same as above.
EM, to big for my taste, too much drool and not active enough.
GD, If I could have an old world GD, sure thing. They were like the BB in just about every way except taller.

Dogo Argintino, pretty dogs but too high of a prey drive for me. They were bred to hunt and need lots of attention and activity. Lots have hearing issues and do not do well in sunny climates because they can get sunburned easily. They were on my list to have before I found the BB.

All the new designer mastiffs. Not a chance. You are messing with temperaments and mixing health issues. If you want to play roulette just pick up a pound puppy and save a life. You never know what you will get in the long run. Look at my Dozer and Duncan. Beautiful dogs but have very poor health and are very aggressive both to people and other dogs. I used to say I would clone Dozer if I had the money but now I know I would not want another dog to suffer his life.

My 11 year old BM and the other 2 BMs I have owned have been amazing with kids... Any and all kids. My BMs have a harder temperment than my EM (so far anyways). And my 11 year old BM, while great with all kids and intoduced strangers is the only dog out of my 4 that I actually think would bite if needed.. the others would just bark.

@ Mike

I do love rotties I owned them for 20 yrs. They are amazing dogs.

Can you suggest any good sites where I can learn more about BB? I do love the TM's I will have to find out some more info from Ruth and Mooshi.

I really don't want to adopt a dog. I adopt all my kitties though :) I would much rather get a pup from a reputable breeder so that I know exactly what I am getting and the background of the pups lines.

He doesn't accept people just because I let them in. Your dad wouldn't be an issue because he would know him already. If I have people he doesn't know over, I have him on a leash with me the whole time unless I have to do something and then I gate him into a room where he can see me but not get to the new people. He can accept new people but it isn't just "it is ok" and move on. Frankly, I don't care for him to accept new people and wouldn't put the time and energy into for anyone I didn't think would be a pretty common part of my life BUT if I need him to accept a new person, it is a process....Not just a one meeting thing. Keep in mind, he is not out of control or anything but he needs to be kept with me. If he decides (someone coming towards me, waving arms, loud voice) he WILL react. Once he accepts someone is he is fine. Two things though.....He loves babies and very small children BUT "kids" for him are the 5 or younger group for the most part so anyone older would be considered a "possible threat" AND even if he accepts someone, that doesn't neccessarily mean he will allow them to enter the house uninvited. For instance, all of my grown children (who do not live here) can walk into the house without my being home BUT their spouses are not offered the same option and I have a handful of friends that he loves and accepts completely but will not allow them to enter the house unless I "invite" them by opening the door. Once I open the door for them, he just loves all over them. As long as I have him on a leash, he just sits or lays next to me so there isn't any lunging or acting crazy......He will ignore them for the most part but in the event that got too close or make any odd movements, I keep him tethered to me. :)
My house isn't that busy. Daily my dad comes over and the boys are getting to that age that they are gonna want to have friends over. So it isn't crazy yet. And one of us is ALWAYS home so we can watch him.

Will he accept people in the house if you let them in? Or do you have to put him in your room?

Let me clarify that the "kids" mentioned are strangers. he loves "his" kids. My grandchildren are loved and protected by Ruger and he loves to play with them and he is so gentle and caring.

I gathered all my information from hundreds of websites and none of them stand out to me as the one best source for info. But I will see what I can put together.

Here is some info with pups for sale too, these are my Odi's littermates. Boerboel Farm Dogs
Some good history on Mizpah Boerboels Boerboel Farm Dogs: Lucas van der Merwe of Mizpah Boerboels: Passion in Action
Maybe the largest kennel of BBs with some good links. Index
