Doggies on the furniture?

We have a 3 seater leatherette couch our Rottie and BM are allowed on, as long as they show their manners. Ottis our BM is also known for carefully climbing up for a cuddle next to me on our good leather couch. The cats claws do more damage than the dogs do and as long as they have had their paws wiped at the door I'm happy to have a canine couch buddy. Our dogs are crated at our meal times and aren't allowed down the hall to the bedrooms so works well for us. Definitely a personal preference though and I probably wouldn't be keen if we had a fabric lounge suite that collected fur.

Yes, they are allowed on the furniture, but must get down when told. Hubby said he better not catch me letting Homer on the bed, I came home from graduation last night to find Homer cuddled up in bed with my sleeping hubby! Ha! I have photographic evidence! My rat terrier sleeps on my bed and one of my cats. Homer will be too big for the bed, so that's not happening! Good thing hubby has his own bed!

We just got a EM puppy! He is our big baby and our family loves him so much! However, he will not be allowed on the furniture. I like to keep our furniture in nice condition. Our children do have furniture privileges however. My children trump the dog! :) However, we bought our 4-pawed family member a wonderful new dog bed and LOTS of fun toys and oh boy does he get LOTS of Hugs and Kisses!!!

We don't have a problem sitting or laying on the floor with Winston.....I find myself on the floor with him most of the time.

My sister on the other hand likes to keep her furniture nice but doesn’t have children. So her dog is her child!! She is allowed on the furniture. I get it!

All is just a matter of preference.

So... is bantu like a crazy person? Or just a troll?

Either way, Elvis isn't allowed on the furniture for a couple reasons. First, it's too high for him to be jumping and it's the only place the cats can escape him. Also, the carpet in my new house is brand new and extra plush. I've slept on it many times the first week of moving so I don't think he minds. Between comfy carpet and multiple pet beds, I think he's OK with it.

Both my st Bernard Vex and my spaniel mix Travis are allowed on the furniture. Oddly enough neither of them will get up on things without permission though (not something I taught them :/) except for one of the chairs in the living room and another in the kitchen. Only those two in the entire house will they get on without me asking them to (and I honestly think they only get on the couch with me for my sake :/)

nope, no dogs on furniture. I hate pet hair all over everything!!!!! I have on occasion caught the dogs creeping into bed with my girls, but this is after the girls called them up there with treats. The kids got in trouble, not the dogs. My dogs have beds and rugs in every room. IMG_1317.jpgI have 2 cats that try to get on everything, but I stay with my water gun trying to keep them off. It is a losing battle with the cats, I know. I did finally break them of getting on the ironing board by leaving double sided tape up there every day for a few weeks. A few tangles in that cured them.:razzberry: But the cats are, well, cats. Dogs don't even try in my house. Now, this is because I hated it as a kid, a smelly couch covered in fur, ew. But now instead, my giant mastiff just walks by leaving drool stings all over the top of my ottoman and couch cushions, and pillows. So the rules are no, but it's like pissing in the wind here at my house. The best of intentions are lost when 2 little girls wanna live pillow pet. Eh, I think it's too much effort for Mamie anyways, it would mean she actually has to get up and well, the floor is sooooo much easier. LOL. Besides, we all lay on the floor with her half of the time to keep her company, so she doesn't even know the difference. :D

Dogs not allowed on the funiture here, they have dog beds to sleep on. Dogs are also not allowed in my kitchen or dining room and rough play is for outside not inside. From a behaviorist point of view this is why dogs are not on funiture. PACK AUTHORITY! Alphas in the pack sleep high than the rest of the pack, something as simple as getting on the bed or couch puts you on the same playing field as your dog. If you have a strong willed dog or a breed that will take advantage of situations and you are giving in here and there it could lead to issues done the line. Same reason my dogs are not allowed in the dining room or kitchen this is where the Alphas eat. My dogs are fed outside or in the laundry room and they are fed after we are finished with breakfast and dinner. All of these rules are in place for a smooth running pack especially when I do as much fostering as I do with rescues of these breeds. This is how I can have 2 Tosa 2 Pits and 1 Cane Corso and soon to have 2 Presas and not have any issues because there is rules and order and the dogs know where they stand with myself my husband and 3 children in the home. Now don't get me wrong they are well taken care of they have large comfy dog beds in the livingroom and in each of the kids bedrooms and the hall upstairs, they are also indoor dogs even though I have 1/2 acre fenced to romp in a lake to play in across the street and a few play pools in the yard.

I thought I was the only "mean" one, lol. I do the same with both my boys.

My current pup no, not allowed on our furniture....my husband's rule not mine! My last OEM, Buddy was allowed on our couch or I should say his couch because thats what it became! My fav afternoons were ones in the winter where I would lay on the couch and Buddy would lay with me, a big warm comforter! He loved to snuggle and purred like a big ole cat. He was placed in a whelping box with kittens that were born right along side the puppies and they were all raised together as babies. He purred like a cat when he was happy, I loved it, my husband thought it was annoying! Buddy was not supposed to be on our bed, but in the mornings after my husband left for work, he would like look out the window to make sure my husband was gone and then jump in bed with me and snuggle until the alarm went off. I think I miss his snuggling with him the most, Cruiser does not like to snuggle he is all play.

rob, your picture is precious! Our first EM was not allowed on our main couch but she would sneak up on the love seat in our sunroom whenever we left. Only way we found this out was one day we came home & heard something from the sunroom & she was half on the love seat & half off. Like she was trying to be very sneaky about getting off that love seat really slow so no one would notice.

no dogs on the furniture at my house. They each have their beds in their kennels. I agree with the poster that said it puts them on the same level as you and thats not conducive to a smooth running pact. The dogs know the hierarchy already. Me at the top, then the wife, then the kids, then the dogs....thats the way they are being taught...now if I could only get my wife to think the same way!!
