Can Corso's be Affectionate?

I keep hearing and reading different stories about how the Corso's act once they are older. I have also seen different types of behaviors in them. Anyone have a Corso that is loving and affectionate as other pups and like to sit on your laps, snuggle, and lay with you all like maybe a lab? I had one breeder tell me that when they get older they may want to be in the same room with you but would just be to themselves and another breeder say they want to be on you. I certainly like the thought of a big loving dog laying on my lap or on the couch with me but ready to protect when needed.

I personally am a firm believer that it is all in how you treat and raise them. I know folks that teach pups not to give kisses or lick them. I for one love to be kiss by a pup. I know Corso's have a major slobber kiss but it's something I enjoy getting hugs and kisses on the cheek from my fur baby. I used to tease my lab trying to kiss her on her head or nose and she would turn her head from me as I approach. LoL, and she never gave kisses which was depressing...

When ours was a puppy he was a cuddle monster, always needing to be on you. Hes about a year old now and hes not so much into cuddling anymore. Not sure if its the hot weather and he prefers the floor, or a phase hes going through. But there is another thread going about how cuddly they are.

I don't have a Corso, but I just wanted to add something that is often misunderstood about labradors (at least in my experience.)

Labradors are affectionate, but not especially "cuddly;" they like their own space. My last dog was a Black Labrador who was seriously attached to me- to the point where I needed to be within sight and/or handling his leash- (god forbid I hand the leash off to a friend and walk away---- panic!) I was also able to walk him off-leash everywhere because he would be within a few feet from me always...and never, ever wanted to wander. He was a mellow guy otherwise, and was very independent when swimming and retrieving long distances, etc....as long as I was within eyesight.

That said, he was not a cuddler. He liked hanging out in his own space- didn't even really like sitting with me (or on top of me) on the couch, bed, et. al. He simply liked knowing I was near by...I don't think that's so uncommon in the breed.

Anyway, I believe mastiffs in general like- and crave- the close physical contact...

Mine is but of course as they get bigger it's not as comfy for either. But I could call Solo over to me right now for a cuddle session.

I think it depends on the dog's individual personality. Yes, I do think there are breed specific traits but in addition, I think each dog has his own little perks. Also, I believe it depends on his own intuitive nature to what he thinks you need.

Not so sure about "cuddly" but in your face, in sight, or leaning tends to be Alices thing. But she also does just fine being independent, out in the yard.

Denna's an EM... and a snuggler, but she does like more space when it's warm out (and "too warm" for her means above 68F).

She's also more of a snuggler with me than the hubby... i.e. she'll crawl in bed to lay up against my side... but when hubby joins us, she leaves. Which makes him sad... but, only for a little while, as then there's more room on the bed for us humans. :)

I like what u said there but I'll add this. Dogs take care of their needs before they worry about ours (if they even do). I know most would like to think they do but that's us putting our human emotions/needs onto our dogs. Not healthy for them or us.

all of mine are right at 2 years old and each and every one of them still believe themselves to be 5 pound lap dogs!! I do not have a single time when i don't have a Corso on my lap or as close to my lap as possible. my dogs facebook page in my signature there are tons of pictures in there of my cows on my lap..

It depends on the individual dog. I have some that have to be close, some that are content with a kiss and a pat and then they snuggle at my feet on the floor, and one that gets her attention and then heads to the high point of the house to keep an eye out on anyone walking or driving up the yard so she can bark and give lots of warning.

mine is the most affectionate dog i ever had. And I had a lot of other breeds before, including GS, terriers, toy dogs... I have 2 neo girls as well very affectionate but not over the top as Jack.
Corso's love - it's too much sometimes. :) He would spend his life attached to my feet - no food, no water, no potty.

My 5 month old CC pup always try's to lay on me or next to me on the couch, but can't always get comfy due to his size(can't imagine when he's full grown). But if that fails he always lays by or on my feet.

Can't speak on when they're older though.

My CC just turned a year old! Loves affection! One touch snd you've gotten yourself a new furry BFF! she leans on us, sits on our feet, stands in between my legs! Any contact she can get, she loves! Such a mush!

Mine will stick to you like glue and hang out and play all day , but during any idle time (pc time tv time) he keeps to himself and feels the need to place himself between Me or Us and the closest entry door. if one of us goes to bed and the other is still up he places himself at the bottom of the stairs and then follow the awake person upstairs and goes to bed. I find him to be very affectionate but not in the cuddling sense.

Our CC just turned a year old June 30th. To say he's a cuddler is an under statement. He's what we call our velcro dog. Near us, with us and on us 24/7. In bed at night he sleeps in the middle of my hubby and I (I know..I know) he has to have a paw touching my husband all night and he has his back cuddled firmly in my side. He gives hugs and kisses (trained by us to do so). Drago is by far the most affectionate do we've ever owned yet still protective of his home and family.. amazing animals cc 's are

My 15 week old Corso isn’t as cuddly as my previous fur baby (bordeaux cross breed) but he is my shadow in fact I laughed with my partner today that we should have called him Shadow rather than Romeo :D he follows me around the house 95.5% of the time. He lays at my feet & will get up and come to me when he wants some loving but he definitely isn’t that cuddly as of right now. With that being said we are currently potty training & crate training but once he is house broken he will be allowed to snuggle in my bed with me of an evening or weekend morning which may help bring his snuggle size out.

Sure they are, once they turn into adults.. As pups they're more like a live wire.. Snuggle,, this girl has to be pretty worn out before that's happening.. She does like contact , sitting on your foot or leaning against you..20201025_191449(0).jpg

My boy Magic is a lover....lol
He loves laying on me or just laying in the bed up against me.... Magic is 20 months old.
My girl Xena is different.. Xena is 6 months old.... 20201030_171006.jpg she isn't into cuddling at all... if she can't lay in the bed untouched she will jump down and go into her cage alone... but females Corsos are more independent than male Corsos....
