We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Blood in Urine

Ok so we have to wait til at least tomorrow for the urinalysis results. His yeast infections have returned in both ears after only 2 weeks. We are upping the benadryl to 2x a day instead of once and daily cleaning and ear drops for the next 10 days. $200 later and I'm still worried about my boy. He seems to be acting, eating, drinking and playing like normal. I'm just a worry wort I guess.

We showed up at the vets at 7:15, They open at &. Apparently though the Dr.s don't get there until 8. He enjoys the vet though. I always make sure and sit near the entrance so he gets to politely greet everyone that comes in. He especially loves meeting new kitties.

It's not bright red but I've also been limiting his marking. It's more of a brownish color. The vet said that could be making things worse is that he's been in mark everything mode for about a month now thanks to one heat after the other (neighbors then Roxy's). I'm not sure exactly what she was feeling but it was around his man parts and said he was slightly swollen.

Interesting. Could brown = healing? Keep us posted and give the poor boy some extra cookies.

Tonight was night 2 of chicken leg quarters mixed with crate training. Tractor supply had them for 50% off so we bought one and my mom bought us one for x-mas. Chicken was on sale so my wife picked some up. Hank is a natural he could care less about being in the crate when food is involved. Roxy, not so much. She doesn't want to even go in for the chicken! We just started with it though so we shall see. I'm waiting for urinalysis results before changing diet. Vet said changing it now could irritate is GI tract.

I've not read the full thread so can't answer on blood in urine. I'd guess UTI but a vet would know better.
Regards insurance.
Get it.
Animal hospitals can cost a LOT even more than people hospitals at times. And medication for an ongoing illness can also cost a small fortune.
Existing conditions are never covered so the earlier you get the cover the better.
Are your dogs 100% pure breed?
I only ask because Max's quote as a mastiff was £32 a month. As a cross breed that quote was £8 a month. So that's something to consider (our vet changed Max records from Mastiff cross to Boxer cross to get the 8 quid quote. Not a lie, just a twist of the truth).
Oh and also some policies will state that conditions diagnosed within the first few months won't be covered.
So again have a word with your vet should your dog be diagnosed with anything on going.
Our vet had already diagnosed athritis but she said she would be willing to diagnose another illness with the same treatment regime (let's say dysplasia) to get his meds covered by insurance.

Thanks for the tip CJ. Yes they are both purebred AKC registered. I love em to death but I need a "real" job before I can even consider committing to another monthly bill. I'd hate to get it then have it canceled because I couldn't pay it that month or some shit lol.

It's not unusual for a full male to have a little blood in his urine if he is exposed to a bitch in heat. (you said there were 2 girls in heat) If not aloud to breed, both his testicles and prostate will enlarge a bit. They should go back to normal once the girls are out of heat. That is if he doesn't have a uti.

Yeah poor guy. Def not getting to my lil baby girl she is WAY to young for that shit. I don't have the money to take care of a litter or a pregnancy besides. Hoping it's something easily remedied. She's on the downswing now. So he shouldn't have to suffer much longer lol.

I hope the results come back with good news and it's nothing serious. It's always stressful waiting to find out!

Well, they called the wife they said there were crystals in his urine. They want to do an ultrasound to check his kidneys and bladder. She said they wanted to get him on a diet that changes the balance of his urine? Apparently they are going t call back in the morning...

Ohh....that sucks. So it's kind of like humans then, pee blood because they have a kidney infection? I know my co-worker has a history of kidney stones and this year he went to the er because he was peeing blood and ends up he had a kidney infection.

I know that sometimes crystals form because people are not getting enough water to dilute the waste that needs to be processed through the kidneys. I believe you said that he has free access to water, but maybe you could try giving him water in his food or something to increase his water intake and see if that helps. Not that I'm a vet though.

Sorry, some context, we see this alot out here in AZ during the summer as people don't understand how much water they truly need to drink in order to stay hydrated. When you get dehydrated is when the crystals will form.

We found out Ella had quite a lot of struvite crystals in her urine when my daughter was doing multiple urinalysis tests at school. The vet/teacher she works with directed me to this page and told me not to go with a diet change.

Topic: Struvite Crystals

I had questioned about going back to our vet in the first place maybe this is my Queue to follow through with that notion.

My wife said this morning that they didn't find bacteria in his urine. There was protein, white, and red blood cells. I watched him pee this morning and it looks like he's having a little trouble urinating. It's wasn't a solid stream like normal it seemed almost like he was pushing a bit and the stream wasn't like normal.
