Thought it was funny my Dogo "Benelli" was playing with another Belgian Malinois while my Belgian Malinois "Remington" watched.

i still dont understand why people take their dogs (especially a dogo) to dog parks. case in point, we have our boy in an ongoing obedience class. he is an angel. we take him to the class more out of routine than anything else. with that said, this is a class with other BIG dogs that are for the most part very well behaved and trained. had an incident yesterday, a rott in the class was not on his best behavior and was in every dog's face. (the owner was still a novice dog owner and still learning) my boy didn't care for the rott and just sat there while the rott was aggressively in my boy's face. but my boy only has so much patience. and when the owner didn't check the rott....my boy did. if i hadn't been standing on the leash... my boy would of done a lot more than just snap at his face. what im trying to say is.. regardless of how well behaved your dog is.. pushed into a corner... your dogo is going to win. what i described happened in a controlled environment... what do you think would happen if you're in a dog park with dog's owners staring at their cellphones. and remember.. your dogo is probably the biggest dog there. it will ALWAYS be his/her fault.

for nerdybirdy... you have another dog. why are you taking them to parks. let them play with each other.

I dont have another dog...yet :) But I dont take zeus to parks havent since he was about 9 months due to him becoming more mature and other dogs wanting to assert their dominance, it was not a situation he should be in so I stopped the visits completely. I allow him to play with dogs he knows such as friends dogs and neighbors dogs whixh he is fine with but dont take him to off leash parks as many other males would start on him. He would never instigate but being as big and as powerful as he is. It would not end well if he was pushed too far, so We socialize him in other ways instead which is safe for him and still allows him to be exposed to new situations :)

Would just like to add I totally agree with what you have said. Zeus is very well trained but if dogs get in his face and decides to push and push the boundries he will retaliate. Sadly no matter who started the tif the bigger dog generally always get blamed. Regardless of how the incident began. He was attacked by a boxer but sadly got the finger pointed at him, but he is great in social situations we just keep him on leash when walking at home or on trail walks, at cafes and restaurants or taking him to the dog beach. He doesnt care he would rather be by our sides. If another dog comes over I just tell him to be "by me" and he keeps walking without a thought, which you need with any dog really.

awww.. sorry.

i meant leosd3 not nerdybirdy.

dog parks should be banned. it gives too many owners the chance to be absentee dog owners. dogs would be much better off if owners took the time to engage with them.

All good, I was so confused! Maybe not banned but have dog walking areas which are on leash that way you have control. By all means allow your dogs to play in a controlled environment where you and others know youre in co trol but there are too many dog owners out there who do not keep all their attention focused on their dog at parks they think they can let them off leash and forget about them and thats how you socialize dogs. Ive seen too many of these instances it makes me so angry and its terrible for the dog if they are not ready! Or used to that amount of commotion. We have a 5m training leash that I use with zeus when we are at the beach or in open park areas so he has that bit of freedom but I still have the control to reign him in if I see something that could be a threat, it has a handle right at the base of the leash as well for good close range control if required. Obviously have the regular walking leash. People should realise socialization does not mean interacting your dogs with other dogs in a free for all its exposing and getting them comfortable with any situation or any animal/ human it may encounter in a neuteral environment( I say neuteral as I know zeus would not be friendly to anyone who came onto the property without us there)

equally as bad as dog parks are owners who use those ridiculous retractable leashes. already had too many instance where dogs come charging at my boy and the owner thinks its a good to let their dogs come charging at my boy. i've given a few ear fulls to those. there was a neighbor of mine who has the most annoying little poodle on one... and once he let him come at my boy... the dog got a hold of my boy's jowls ... of course my boy just looked at him like... wtf are you doing? my response probably wasn't ideal.. but i told him... if his dog ever comes close to mine again like that.. im going to drop his leash and see how his dog likes it. the guy walks on the other side of the street every time he sees me.

they should really require some sort of test before people can get a dog.. or you have to pay a huge annual fee. dog parks... retractable leashes...just add to the list of the many things wrong with this world. but on a brighter note.. my boy is turning 1 in a week.

I cant stand retractable leashes!!!! Its a great concept if used properly but again people think it's fine to have them constantly at full length (too frustrating.

I completely agree there should be training for those who want a dog. That way you are all on the same page. I have put so much time, money and effort into training zeus and would not change a thing, however wish everyone took the same amount of xare with their dogs! People ask how he is ao good on leash. I let them no every walk is a training session! It helps reiterate everything you train at home and in classes.

Oooh how exciting! Are you doing anything for his bday? We took zeus on his favourite walk got his best puppy friend up and gave him steak for his bday. ..but im just one of those crazy people that spoils my pup rotten like that haha

i promised my girl that I wont threaten to murder him that day. thats pretty much a standing threat i have. he is actually a well behaved dog. but we also have an 8 yr old aussie who is... so great.. people claim he is half human. he is so considerate that he will even lick you gently. So, my pup has HUGE footsteps to follow in. which results in me threatening to kill him every day.
