Bad news for Jade.

I have only heard of gold beads being used for spinal issues, and a lot of mixed reviews on them. A vet I trust on another forum who owns Danes and is very current in giant breed issues does not recommend them based on their effectiveness. I was not aware of their use for elbow dysplasia

All I know is from my experience with Kryten. He is now ~7 weeks post op on his left leg, he went symptomatic on it despite the right actually looking worse on the X-rays. There have been some problems, ie the open osteotomy but overall he is now doing much better on that leg than he was before. The swelling is gone, right side is still swollen despite anti-inflamatories but that could be due to increased usage. As long as I can keep him from overdoing it, he is walking better more like a hitch rather than a full limp. This is also on lower dosage of meds than prior to surgery. Also the longer there is a loose fragment inside the joint, from everyone I've spoken to and read about elbow dysplasia the symptoms are caused by a loose fragment of either bone or cartilege, the more chance there is for arthritis to form at an early age. The hardest part honestly has been keeping him quiet so that he can recover. Once his left leg has healed enough to not be at risk I will be getting his right leg done as well because I can tell already that it will be better for him in the long run than trying to prevent him from being as active as he wants to be.

sorry about what happened mike, hope jades dysplasia is mild, and doesn't require much attention, hope something good comes of this.

Currently it's around $5000. That includes the surgery on his left leg, 2 additional sets of X-rays and miscellaneous medication refills. He is on both Tramadol and Metacam. I am also giving him Traumeel.

One thing I had been giving him was Arnica. It is supposed to help with both pain and inflammation. I stopped after a week because I discovered the Traumeel, which includes arnica, but also includes other herbal compounds that are also supposed to aid in bone repair.

This really sucks for you! Keep us posted on what the vet says.

I would maybe look for a joint supplement that has yucca and MSM. Or maybe just straight yucca. I used yucca for my older arthritic horse and it really helped him with the pain.

I'm considering one of these supplements for my boy:

I
think they also make a liquid formula of both of these formula, and a tablet formula as well of the Arthrisoothe

Jade's diagnosis is a Coronoid Process problem. He did not say FCP but did say a problem with the coronoid process. I am wondering if it is Jump Down Syndrome.

That make sense especially if there is no sign of DJD as well. It would also mean that she doesn't have elbow dysplasia and therefore it is less likely that she will ever have a problem with her other elbow.

Actually Dr. said there was minor signs of the same thing in the other elbow. But I actually think this is at least partially my fault by letting her use the stairs at an early age and jumping in and out of the SUV unassisted. The stairs and flirt pole play would probably be the most harmful. She would go up or down the stairs a few times each week day and several times a day on weekends when I was home.

I have an appointment with an Orto specialist 19th of August. But Jade actually seems to be improving right now but we could be masking. I have he on Triple strength Glucosamine, a therapudic dose of fish and krill oils and normal dose of "C". This on top of her pain meds.

The pain meds could certainly be masking the pain. I know Kryten was walking perfectly fine prior to surgery. Hopefully the specialist can give you good news.
