6 month old with a Heart Murmur

We have a sweet tosa inu mix dog who is about six months old.

At her last visit to the vet, the vet detected a heart murmur. He said there is no need for further analysis yet, but we should just monitor her behaviour and energy level. He also said it may be dangerous or may not - and not knowing what could happen to her, makes me crazy...

She is very lazy and sleeps a lot, but as this is my first mastiff i do not know how much sleep and laziness is allowed :D

Does anyone have any advices on what should i do? Maybe go to another vet to see what they have to say?

I wouldn't worry about it - heart murmurs come and go as the heart grows and develops. I had one myself in college that finally went away.

You do want to make sure any vet is aware of it, and have them monitor it at every checkup. It could alter how they approach surgery/anesthesia and potentially some other meds, depending on the severity.

We're also on our first EM, and we find the amount of sleep and laziness required is pretty extreme. :)
Denna is as serious about her nap time as she is with play and walk time... she's into it 100%!

If the murmur still worries you, it can never hurt to go to a second vet for a "wellness check" and have them listen for it. Maybe wait a few months to see if it goes away on it's own before you have them listen again. Maybe the second time you can get them to give you a severity indication, like 1-10, so you know how closely you need to monitor things.

We will visit the vet tomorrow and ask him to check it out one more time. I know very little about that condition (just read some info that i found online) so when i heard there's something going on with her heart, i panicked !! Thanks for answering :)

You could have her checked out by a heart specialist, my x roommate took her Doberman to one after he was diagnosed with a heart murmer by his vet. To my knowledge, he's doing well still with no issues! Otherwise I wouldn't really worry too much! I hear they are pretty common

The first Vet that I took my English Mastiff to when he was a puppy , said that he had a stage 1 heart murmur . I ended up switching Vets (not for this reason )and informed her about the heart murmur and she said it was almost impossible to hear a stage 1 murmur through a stethoscope . She informed me not to worry about it . A year and a half later , my dog shows no signs of a heart murmur and he is a healthy dog . So they do "grow" out of it .
