Hi all,

It's been while since I posted a thread. Klaus just recently
been neutered. The surgery was a routine and all is well.
The reason why I'm posting is because his weight
concerns me. He was 88lbs about 3 weeks ago and is eating as usual, however our vet weighed him at 82 today. He is approx 21inches tall(bit smaller than average but healthy) he hardly has any body fat on him and toned. We are pretty active for the most part (3-5 mile walk 4x week plus plenty of play time at our backyard). Can someone comment on his weight and possible size comparison to your corso.
Feedbacks are appreciated!

Thanks!!

Rocco he is 13months old

He sounds like he is on the smaller side, but no matter as long as he's healthy. From what I understand Cane Corso grow well into their second year. As long as he's not to thin I wouldn't worry. Every dog has a set genetic potential just like people.

I can't really comment on his size/weight as I have an EM but I wanted to give a possible reason for the weight loss. He just had surgery. Anytime the body has to heal it can stop growing or even lose weight despite a constant diet. My EM had surgery on his leg back in June when he was 16 months old and 170 lbs. despite increasing his food he is still 170 lbs as of a couple of weeks ago (21 months). He has continued to grow, his head and chest are filling out so despite not losing weight he is between very lean and skinny. Kryten's surgery was much more invasive and traumatic than a neuter so I would expect your boy to bounce back faster than he has. Although you may have to exercise more to keep the muscle state he was at since he no longer is producing testosterone.

I am not an expert. But i wanted to share what we were taught by a couple breeders. We were told during the development period (under 18 mths) since they are still growing now to over do the excerise. Especially under a year. After the year their growing does slow down in comparison to the months under a year. And maybe someone can clarify if this is correct information.

So could it be possible it be due to all the walking? What crosses my mind is like when we were kids and parents would say " hey dont be lift weights too much cause it stunts ur growth"

Again it might sound off... If i am... I apologize. It is just what came to mind. I am a noob to the cc world and still learning.

Look forward to see additional responses :)

My Cane Corso , Leonidas, a one year old male is weighing in at 150 pounds. He is tone and fit. A very healthy boy! Last time we measured he was 27.5 inches , that was a month ago. I measure him every 4 weeks ..

I hope this helps! Leonidas' parent were very big btw! :)

Sounds like he is just on the smaller side for a male Cane Corso. I'm no expert, and not really great with height and weight, but, at 21 inches, I'd think that's a pretty normal weight. My female is small for the females as well, 80 pounds about lean and in very good shape. She is about 24 inches, but is very fine boned. Also, from what I have learned from my vet, from other experienced dog people, and from articles online etc, (take what i say with a grain of salt, i'm no expert and could also be a little off) when we spay or neuter our dog's before they are fully grown ( I'd at least wait until two) we are taking away the hormones they need to properly grow, thus possibly stunting their growth a little. My female was spayed at 15 months which very much so upset me, I wanted to wait until she was well over 2. But, she had pyo so I really didn't have a choice. That being said, I really wouldn't worry too much as long as he is healthy, has energy and want's to be active, and has that glow to his coat and eyes =). People spay and neuter dogs at young ages all time ( most rescues require it immediately, or very soon into adoption, even with young pups) , and all that I know, are not affected by it, but I do think they probably don't grow as full as they would had they been left intact.

My male is small. At 11 months he is just at 80lbs. I have come to grips with it. He is going to be small. He is super fit, not an oz of fat on him. Very strong and muscular. And boy can he run and jump when he wants to. Let him be healthy. His loss is probably due to the surgery, I bet he will add that back on.

Just measured his height again, he is 25inches tall (shoulders) and weighs 85lbs now. I am thinking of switching his food from Bufallo to something else. Would still appreciate your cc height weight for comparison. Mine is 13months old 25inches tall and 85lbs of muscle.

Klaus is now 18months old and weighs 80lbs. Does anyone have a corso same age as him that's on the lighter side? He is 26inches at the shoulders. Thanks!

Looks great....don't sweat it....there are too many people that get wrapped up in how much they weigh and how big there dog is. Your dog looks sleek, healthy and fit....beautiful. Don't get into the "my dog is bigger than your dog"....I see a lot of pics of their dogs and they look puffy and overweight....yours looks great.
