Last night out of nowhere Odin started limping and not putting all of his weight on his left hind leg. I do not recall any trauma happening with him, could it be something to do with a growth spurt?!?!?? I hope he didn't hurt himself. Either way I'm going to take him in to the vet ASAP

He is still limping on it :( I couldn't get him in the vet, we will call monday morning to get him in. He still tries to play around but I limit that as much as possible, I don't want him to injure himself more. I guess him trying to play is a good sign, he isn't too bad:pray: hopefully anyways. We are doing calming and focus exercises for his training until I know what is going on with his leg....... My poor boy, and thanks everyone for your concern, I appreciate it.... We will def keep the updates coming.

I agree, it's a good idea to keep him as calm as possible. Crossing fingers that it's pano which he will grow out of pano.

I went through this with Jade. Be very careful and question the vet. Also if the vet wants to perform the "Drawer Test" on Odin voice your concerns that it can make a damaged joint worse. Jade did not use her leg for a couple days then limped for a couple weeks then it went away. They told me they did the drawer test and that she needed surgery immediately. DO NOT FALL FOR IT! Do some research and get a second opinion.
And read this website. Dog ACL Injury-- Is Surgery Really Needed?

Hector is going through some kind of leg/hip/back pain. I thought he was all better after a week of no walks. He didn't cry and acted fine so I took him on a short walk last night and that was a BAD idea. He ended up crying all night, didn't want to get up because he was in pain. He screamed every time he switched from laying on his right to his left. Screamed some more every time he had to get up and screamed when his back legs were in motion. The times he wasn't screaming, he cried. This is the worse I've seen him. He wouldn't let me touch his rear end and he is not limping.

I ordered some recovery SA for dogs after recommendation from Mountainfila. I had to give him 2x the aspirin that was recommended and then I had to keep him downstairs (which caused more anxiety and crying) and finally I had to give him benedryl to make him sleepy and that kept him quiet for about 3-4 hrs.

That is exactly the same that Jade did. I got her to the vet asap in a panic. The pain meds and anti inflammatory helped but I took her off of them after 2 or 3 days so she would not hurt herself thinking she was feeling good.

Could it be maybe he has hurt his back , do you know if any of the vets in your area do chiropractic work, I had to have Karl adjusted when he was just 5 weeks old , he fell off the couch and wrench his neck, my vet is schooled in it but she has never had to adjust such a young pup but wow it was like he had instant relief , he also whined and cried out in pain when he moved but after she gave him a couple of adjustments and his crying stopped and he was back to normal puppy self the next day. Its worth a try but only if the vet knows what they are doing and it my be worth it to talk to them about a mild sedative , cause he is a fila lol. Also any hydro therapy places for animals near you, horses or dogs, that is great healing therapy, no stress on the joints, I know some vets are starting to carry their own hydro therapy treadmill in a box that gets filled with warm water so the dog can still walk but is buoyant enough to not feel their weight. But I would definitely take him in for maybe some x-rays in order to make sure there is not more serious issues happening like a slipped disk, and I would def restrict his movements, rest , only up and out to do his business and back to laydown.

I use Turmeel (sp?) its an all natural anti inflammatory with Arnica, and seemed to work on my cats and the dogs I have used it on, I learned about it a few years ago from my vet. You say he is downstairs and I take it you sleep upstairs? is he kenneled while he is downstairs?

Yeah went to the vet, his back is messed up. Not sure how bad, just on meds now. Waiting on the dragging his hind feet thing and then that's when it's really bad. Usually we all sleep upstairs, but his back is hurting so he is blocked off downstairs. I can't even take him out to the bathroom. Sucks. Ginger woke up one day with both hinds legs unusable, but she was able to recover within a week and she's been fine ever since. No supplements, no meds except the steroids from vet, but she is not 130lbs so..

OP sorry for the hijack.

For both we used to use Traumeel and Zeel combined, but last spring they announced they were leaving the US so I stopped buying it. I justy looked on Amazon and it is still available and less expensive. I set up a combo buy for these products and it is still active check the Frequently Bought Together section. I also used to buy Dog Gone Pain. It seemed to help a little.

Zeel

DGP

No worries Hector and Mountainfila...... Well, I took Odin to the vet and I over reacted, he jammed his toe and they prescribed him some previcox for the inflammation and pain......Thank goodness!!!

Glad it was pretty minor, im sure he will be back to normal in a few weeks, toes take a while to heal, seeing they are a main moving body part and have the chance to be re injured.
