whining....

Alright guys, I feel like I have put in a good effort and it doesn't seem to help. Sofia my 11 month old seems to whine a lot first thing in the morning... I mean at like 5.. I usually feed her at 6am, take her out and she will be good. I have been trying the ignore method. She doesn't stop whining, if she wakes up at 5 and starts whining I just ignore her until 6 or until she doesn't whine. But I feel like she has gotten a bit to smart. Lately what she does is whine, I stay in bed, then at 6 when I get up she will stop whining because then I will let her out. I mean I have never not feed her.... any suggestions?

Deal with it lol. I have the same problem here and it stresses me out and pisses me off because he's so loud and persistent. Sometimes yelling go lay down works and sometimes he does need to go potty, but most of the time he's just a big ass. Sorry got nothing for you.

I assume neither of you let your dogs sleep on the bed?
When she was 3 months old, Sophie slept on the floor next to my side of the bed. When she started whining like that, I would ignore her for 15 minutes; let her think I was asleep.
The next day, 15 more minutes. Talking to her made her want more attention, so silence deprives her of what she is acting out for.
When it got to where she would let me sleep until 7 AM, the first whine I was up and out with her. The inside for breakfast and coffee. Rarely will she wake me before 7 now which is just fine with me. Pick the time you want to get up and stick with it. Now sleeping until 7 AM feels like a luxury. On the weekends, my husband is up at 6 AM anyway, but she stays in bed with me until 7AM, then migrates to the great room for her walk with my husband. I get to sleep until 8 AM which is a huge treat.
I don't know whether this helps or not. I try to look at why they are acting out and what's in it for them; what is their reward. Then figure out a way to help her achieve that reward without being a right royal pain in the hind end in the process. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries. I dont claim to know everything, just what has worked for me and my dog.

Dogs have their beds. I can't have a routine schedule because I work rotating shifts. When he's had enough sleep, he will whine at every toss and turn I make. I have to yell at him to go away and lay down, he's really bad. I didn't think he would be this bad, but he is bad. Silence = more whining for up to an hour.

The only time my dogs whine is when they have to go potty.
No matter the time of day or night I get up and let them out as sometimes it is diahreah and they just cant hold that in.

I get up and let Denna out when she whines, day or night... unless I KNOW she's just bored and wants me to start moving... then she gets told to "go lay down", and I ignore any complaints... within 2 minutes she's normally curled up on my side, snoring, anyway. :)

LOL!!! I get up at 4:45 to get breakfast started for my husband. Bailey gets in the big bed (as differentiated from her baby bed) when I get out so that she can get her morning lovies. We snuggle her together and then Daddy gives her another snuggle while I make breakfast. If, the baby dog comes to the bed and vibrates...licking/smacking lips and pacing, one of us gets up to avoid the puddle/pile. We share the responsibility!
Look, in the middle of the night or early morning, if they are asking for, it's necessary. JMO.

I am sorry you took my post personally because it was not meant that way. With my Bostons, I leave the TV on for them when I go out to keep them company. Could your dog benefit from something like that? Sophie goes pretty much everywhere with me because she is my service dog in training and I need her! I am sorry you are so disappointed with the way things are. I hope you can find a way to ease the situation.

I didn't take it personally. The tv doesn't do anything for him. He has mild form of separation anxiety. When I toss and turn, Hector thinks I'm getting up and he gets really excited and sometimes he gets so wound up he can't calm down. Even if he goes and lays down on his bed he does a whisper whine. I'm getting some melatonin and rescue remedy. Yeah it's a bad way to go, but I need to toned down a bit.

Early morning when i start moving more is whine i hear a few whines.Usually we do get up at the same time and everything. but if i dont have to go to work an di try to sleep in she only whines for a little bit and goes back to bed. Most of the time when i dont hae to work i still get up at 6, feed, let her out, and then she loves to jsut go back to bed... lol

I typically get up at 7. On the nights Crickett sleeps in her crate she will whine at 5am. It's a soft little whine...which means "Can I please cuddle in bed with you?" So I usually let her out of the crate and she snuggles right in bed with us. Once I do this she will lay in bed until 10 am if we let her lol.

HAHAH thats great. My wife would not be happy is she woke up with Sofia next to me... But Sofia's whining is very soft as well. I usually can ignore it for the most part because it is so soft. When she use to have to go out i had her trained to hit the bell... but now she just never does... not sure why.

When we got Crickett my husband said "no dogs in bed with us!" I said oh okay. Well that all changed pretty quickly....my husband is worse than me...he just adores her and loves to snuggle with her. It's too darn cute.

We had the same discussion; Now he laughs as he says no dogs on the bed. We are outnumbered; 3 dogs, 2 people. I have thought about building some sort of bed extension like a frame with a twin mattress on top!

My 2 Babies have done great since they started staying inside with me...when it's time to go to bed I just say "time to go nite nite" they follow me to the bedroom, Corelina has a bed at the foot of my bed and Titan has a bed in his crate(he is still to hyper to leave out)and I just tell them to "lay down and go nite nite". My alarm goes off at 6:30 and Corelina is in my face to make sure I don't hit the snooze button!!!

So the past few night I have been keeping her cage opened at night time. I have heard her come out like once each night and I tell her to go back to bed. but morning time she stays in her bed and still whines a little... I just found it funny that her cage door is left wide open but she stays in there until I tell her too:p
