What's a good way to get a ddb puppy 3 mths up and down stairs? He will climb slowly

I don't pick up my 10 week old DDB until Friday but in response to your question I intend to do as instructed by the breeder, and indeed what I did with my previous Dalmatians. I find going up isn't as problem (as long as you follow them up behind), with 2 and 4 year old boys am used to this by now :p in regards to coming down I found carrying until you think their big enough was a start, and then I used a lead to guide them down, Kore to dictate a safe speed then anything else, gradually phasing out the lead, until one day I just left them too it, hopefully (and breeder seems to agree) this is the most effective way to stair train them :)

He is getting very heavy to carry up and down. Breeder said no stairs that's not realistic, but don't want to cause growth ,joint, elbow issues. Thinking of ways to get him down carefully without being carried all the time. Thank you for you info I will try that

Are the stairs carpeted? If not, can you carpet them? A young pup should not go up and down the stairs without assistance for at least 12 months to prevent injury.

Use a leash to help the pup go up and down.

Yes our stairs have thick carpet and a landing in between each step. We carry him down but he has learned to slowly go up. Just cautious with him nit to injure himself.

Cool! Add the leash and help him go up and down.

what about your joints that will have issues carrying this lump?

you count too ya know!
use a leash. use a lure, and reward for all forward movement.
dig some steps into a piece of earth in garden, get him practicing on that. Very safe if he falls. and less likely to spook the dog whislt training.

Put a juicy, rotten stinking bone at top. have dog go get it. Dont feed first, keep it hungry for training.
