What age will he stop growing?

Jade is a tall 24" and she is a combination of the old style farm BB and the newer beefier BB. As many of the breeders have said she has a perfect form and her legs and feet are perfection. I got really lucky. Something that I was told is do not over do it with calcium or protein if the legs are not straight or if the pasterns are collapsed. And make sure to give fish oil and vitamin C (Esther C works great) this will help on bowed legs or flipper feet also keeping the nails short help to prevent splayed feet and flippers.

Thanks again DMikeM, your a true gent.

The problem with my dog (Beck) is that looking from the side, the carpus kicks out to the front quite considerably, in fact there is a picture of a dog skeleton that shows clearly what i mean. The picture is here at this web site Skeleton of a dog

If you wouldn't mind taking a look, its the leg on the far side that resembles my dogs front legs. Another thing i have just spotted, is that my dogs carpus is considerably longer than your dogs.

Thanks again.

The carpus is what I was talking about, if your dog is more hound like (old style BB) then he will likely have longer Carpus bones and longer legs. The fallen or downed pastern can be hereditary or from improper nutrition. I will see what I can find on correcting the downed pastern.
Is this what you are talking about?

Here is some info regarding the condition

Apparantly lowering the protien adding C and gloucosamine with MSM and light excersize can correct this condition. Also bone soup added to his meals.

Big Pot,
Drop in any type of bones you got, anything with joints is great, necks, feet all of it. Cover with water add a splash of Apple Cider Vinegar and a few capsules of fish oil, cover and simmer for several hours. Remove all the bone and toss out or grind up for your garden. Let cool and skim off the fats if you like and pour into jars and refrigerate. The stuff that is in the jar is like jelly and you can just drop a spoonful in his food once or twice a day or just heat it up and pour some on his food.

I really recommend raw feeding if you can do it.

Re the picture you posted on the normal corpus and the downed one, my dog was the same as the normal one, but now i think that he is slghtly straighter than the normal one, my son also thinks the same, so i would think it must have straightened some.

So if that is normal, then i must be worrying unnecessarily, but it still seems to me that your dog is much straighter than the normal carpus picture, am i wrong in thinking that?

Re raw feeding, coincidently my daughter works at a butchers, good quality meat is guarenteed for us and at a very reasonable price. :)

I guess i will go the raw meat way and see how it goes, does raw meat need any aditives?

Thanks.

Jade has exceptional bone structure, and small cat like paws compared to others that I have seen. Maybe it is the stairs that does it as all my dogs have been this way.

For RAW some people add probiotics or yogurt, I only add fish oil and glucosamine. We really don't need the GC anymore but my older dogs do so I just crush up some tabs and sprinkle it over the food. We have a RAW feeding subforum here and some knowledgeable folks on the subject. I do my own thing that most would not agree with, but it works for us.

Hi Zundap
Do you mind sharing the name of the breeder you bought from?
Not being critical at all - just curious as I am in the UK also.

Sorry to be late in replying to your post Dan i have lots of problems recently, i will dig out the papers tomorrow and post it here. I can tell you now the chap lives in a vilage on the outskirts of Gainsborough in Lincolshire.

Hi there Dan, the breeders name is M Walker, i cant remember his address but i can tell you that you head straight south out of Gainsborough town centre and head for Torksy if you know it. Torksy (not sure of spelling) is a place where house boats tie up and there is a country car boot close by also.

Is there a problem some where some how?

This chap breeds other breeds of dogs also i believe, we went o pick Beck up late at night, it was dark and we could not see much as a result of the that, we just picked him up and left straight away.

I do have his phone number, the trouble is that i have two phone numbers under dog, which one of the two is his number i am not sure. If you want his number, i will check which one it is and ask him if its ok for me to give his number out, because some people are touchy about havin their number handed around.

One number is for a lady who was selling Ovcharkers which i conidered buyging at one point, but the ones she had were the central plains one, but i prefer the Georgian bear type or mountain type. I could not find a breader apart from a chap that wanted two grand uip front to pay for the importation.

Being a yorkshire man, i am afraid i wouldn't trust him, but just the other day i found a breader just a bit further north of me, so i may yet still get one as a play mate for Beck. It would be real interesting to watch them gro up together and compare one with the other.

The Ovcharka is a very good gaurd dog and my Beck is not looking like a gaurd at all, the only person he has barked at is me. I still love him to bits though, it just seems strange that i have got to get a gaurd dog to protect my gaurd dog. lol

Let me know if you want his phone number and i'll sort it out for you.

Hi Zundap
Sorry for the delayed response - I didn't notice your reply.
I was just curious about the breeder because boerboels are so rare here in the UK.
I am "down South" in Coulsdon (just South of London) - so I haven't come across your breeder in Lincolnshire.
I have a 1 year old male boerboel from Topguard Kennels in Slinfold.
They breed big, athletic, working dogs.
Ronnie was 28" at the shoulder and a lean 65Kg at 11 months. I don't think he'll get much taller - but he will definitely fill out for a while yet.
I personally prefer dogs on the larger side - as long as they are fit and powerful.

I am interested that you say your dog isn't "guardy" yet.
I think he will probably start showing more interest in his work any time now :)
I think they often start by reacting to noises or movement outside the home - and especially at night.
In the daytime - and away from the home, Ronnie still seems to think everyone is his mate! :)

Coincidentally, Mark at Topguard also has an Ovacharkar.
If you did want to chat about how adults of the 2 breeds might mix, I think he would be a good source of information.
He is a serious breeder and really knows his stuff.

Regards

Danny

Hi there Dan, i too have been very buisy lately, mainly through work, but also problems with my dog Beck. Its interesting that you mention Topguard because Becks mother is a Topguard dog. Here name on his pedigree (if thats what they are called) is "Topguard Bounty Tia" Bearing in mind what you say i will certainly get in touch with Topguard. I will be greatly interested to hear how your BB goes.

Has he been apraised yet? If so, could i ask where he was apraised and how well he did.? If he hasn't yet been apraised, we might meet at the next apraisal.

There is at least one other BB breeder in the UK besides the one in Lincolshire and that is a guy up in Lanarkshire, i think i am correct in saying that he actually put an advert in the Dogs4you on line advertiser, advising people not to buy BB's at todays prices and to wait till he is fully set up for breeding when he will charge only £800 for them. If i remember correctly, he had advertised a litter of pups as well, but it was too far for me travel at that time.

I also believe that there is another breeder in Lincolnshire, but who and where he is exactly i dont remember. I may chase that up later because i am concidering getting a twelve month old female if i can and the more people i know in the BB world the more chance i have to get one.

Thanks for the reply and my apolgies also for a late reply.
