Hiya:) I’m looking for some firsthand experience on feeding TMs. It seems there are many trains of thought regarding protein / fat percentages etc. so I thought I’d ask here given you all have TMs:)

At the moment she’s on BlackHawk Puppy – 4 cups a day (Came highly recommended) . Our current plan is to take her off puppy and put her on large breed food and see if that slows her down?

She’s currently nearly 16 weeks and 23kgs (about 50 pounds) and I’m worried she might be getting a little too heavy too quickly. Her breeder suggested she’d put on about 1kg each week, but to date she’s put on about 2kgs each week and we are following the instructions on the bag:) She doesn't look overweight but we've always tried to keep our big dogs lean, and I don't think we're winning:)

Prior to the kids we had an English Mastiff and an Airedale who enjoyed home prepared meals every day and thrived. Now having an 11, 12 and 13 year old at home we’ve found ourselves committed to finding the best possible “meal in a bag†we can manage for the four legged family members:)

Any thoughts, suggestions or “stop what you’re doing right now€™s†greatly appreciated:)

Well, as long as the food works for her and the calcium/phos numbers and ratio are correct (and the BLackhawk puppy is fine for that) then you can put her on any food that works. I will agree that that one is on the higher end for fat/protein (though I've seen higher), so if you think she might be a bit chunkier than you'd like it may be worth switching her over to something with lower numbers there.

Can't you just lower the portion sizes if she's adding too much "padding"? Bag guidelines are just 'guidelines', after all...

Denna (EM) added 0.5lb (0.22kg) per day at that age. She plateaued at 140lbs at ~15 months... and is still there now, at 20 months old.

And I agree with Catia... pictures?? please??

Tully had her 16 week vet check and needles and they concurred that she might be slightly portly, but mainly just a “thickly†built little dog:) - Very healthy / no concerns.

We did put her on half puppy / half big girl food and we’ll move her over to all big girl food over the next week or so and see if she slows down.

We reduced the portion sizes and it had the suspected effect. A sad and hungry Tully:) We’ll keep an eye on her over the next few weeks and see how she goes. I’ll get some pic updates happening when I get the mud off her!

neve102--post the pics with the mud!!!
She is such a pretty girl--that's gonna shine through no matter what!!!
Personally, -I absolutely LOVE wet & dirty dog pics--she's a pup, we wanna see her grow-dirty or not--most of those messy type pics are the best ones ever--just like with kids--it shows them in all of their glory.

Take as many pics as you can now-no matter her state-she's going to grow so fast, even if you do slow it down, it won't be by very much, & well, I for one wanna see-and I know I'm not the only one.
