  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

To neuter or not to neuter that is the question (and spay)

First of all

we have three Neo's and two guard dogs, a 5 YO female who is fixed, an 8 month old male who is not and a 7 month old female who also is not and the guard dogs are 7 year old Rottenchows and both fixed,
i don't want baby Neo's but i do want healthy Neo's so the little fella has already started "grindin" on his little sis usually from the wrong end (but I'm not sure what hes into) but sooner or later he will work it out!

so what do the experts here think? how long should i wait and who gets done first!!!

whats funny is my 5 YO female also humps on the little one sometimes for some reason!

Preferably yes. At that point their growth plates will have closed or mostly closed and the likelihood of any bone or joint issues lessens.

I was also wondering about this we don't want any puppies and not really keen on my neo wandering when there is a lady in heat, my boy is 14 months ATM and we were going to leave it to around 2 years or should it be later ? I'm new to neos so just wanting to get this right :)

Had Norm foxed at 10 months and he's still going strong and it has calmed him down a fair bit but also he is growing and learning the rules more every day

If you can wait longer than 2, 3 is even better but if you have to neuter sooner 2 is totally okay.

so fixing norm hasn't had any affect on him growing or being a jackarse with Murphy, had a couple breaks with peace but right back to fighting again once that was over, we are getting good at spotting the signs but sometimes it just happens out of the blue for no reason and once they start they aint listening to us and with them both being around the 150lbs mark its getting harder and harder to stop them!

Murphy always seems to come out worse even tho she rarely gets it started!

Its hard to say because we can't see, but I'd be inclined to say that its not "happening out of the blue" there are silents signs that are more than likely being missed. Reproductive organs again cannot "fix" behavior issues alone.

9 times out of 10 we see it coming and take action to separate them before it escalates but LST nights was just one min they are both napping after their short walk then Norm goes for a drink comes back and pounces on Murphy while she is still laying down!

Do you notice any eye contact or staring? Does Norm look like he's "stalking" before be pounces on Murphy?

usually thats what we notice and we seperate them at that point but sometimes we either miss it or there just isn't anything to spot and its too late, Im just tired of them doing it and its costing us a small fortune at the vet since Murphy always comes off worse!

Is there anyone around you that you trust that can work with you? Its difficult to access the situation over the internet. So having someone hands on will greatly benefit. This needs to be nipped ASAP for all invovled.

yep i agree, we thought after getting him fixed he might calm down and generally he is amazingly calm considering he is a puppy and show zero signs of aggression towards me or his mum no matter what, take his toys away no problem, but he is basically a teenager with a big sister, Murph is maybe 5 or 6 maybe older nobody seems sure and she is just too old for this crap!

Unfortunately "fixing" a dog doesn't really "fix" their behavioral issue, despite what population says. There's something going on between them personally wether its Norm or Murphy who's being the instigator its hard to say. Yes even the "victim" can be the instigator too.

we had problems with our previous make Boosa when he was about 8 months old, had him fixed problem solved hoped it would be the same this time round, Norm is definitely the instigator altho Muprh has had runs in with our two guard dogs before 9torrie chow mixes) when they got into the same area everything we see now is Norm puffing his chest out and being a bit jumpy before it hits the fan!

shock collar was a waste of money since every time i actually needed it it wouldn't bloody work Im thinking cattle prod now lol

i spray my dog in the eyeball with water, it surprisingly always works, but i doubt it would work in your case. I would suggest to get Your Female Neutered before she goes into heat, and you have inbred pups.

they are not related and Murph we fixed as soon as we rescued her, last time they went at it was outside, one min playing happily the next at each others throats, i hit them with the hose pipe at close quarters and it didnt even faze them, they pretty much go at it till they are done or we actually pull them apart, we stay calm and talk to them in a low voice and just try to ease them apart,

8 months old I'm going to step out there and say probably adolescence stage but different strokes per folks. I wish there was a way to help you more but you need someone physically there to tell you the signs.
