Show martingale collar and lead

Gear to Go has a booth at the show this weekend, and the female half of the couple who runs it was braiding up a leash when I stepped in to look. So of course I had to ask if she could do a martingale style show collar/lead for a giant breed. She said sure, and that was pretty much that.

Black kangaroo leather, cause after going through their color options I decided the black set off his sable better than the golds/creams blended with his body shading. Gold and amber beads for accent.

Its a slightly heavier braid than the usual ones, her suggestion for a giant breed, and something that I like quite a bit since when my hands are having a bad day that skinny braid was hard to manage.

I probly should have had them make the lead part shorter by about 6 inches, and the collar part shorter by about an inch, but those are both my failings not theirs, and its FINE the way it is so I'm not complaining.

Used it today in both the breed and group rings, and at first try I like it quite a bit!

NOT CHEAP, but then its a custom piece, made to my specifications. After adding in NY state tax it came to $102.67.

I need to figure out how to make something like that but nice with the paracord. Or is leather the only thing people use for this?

Theres nylon versions, braided and not braided. And some use chain collars with leather or nylon leads. It would have to be a pretty fine braid though. I'll measure the diameter of this one (and his old one) of you want, but its a fairly thick braid for a show collar/lead, the usual ones are really fine.

I don't see why the paracord wouldn't work as long as you could braid it fine enough. I personally prefer leather, but the paracord wouldn't stretch, which is one of the big complaints about leather.

His old collar and lead is just a hair over 1/8inch in diameter, the new one is exactly 1/4inch in diameter. I wouldn't want to go any thicker than that, cause it would be to difficult to bunch up in one hand.

I ordered this one about a month ago. I have to say I love it. I bought it off of esty.com. Custom made kangaroo leather martingale. I can get the link if you would like. I have mine made with 6 strands instead of 4. It held up great when fawn tried to catch a rabbit during training the other day ;)

Go ahead and post the link, I can't imagine we're the only folks who wanted one, so even if I don't use it someone else might.
