Puppy love

Hi there. We have found out that a breeder, her bm girls we were looking into has had a litter of 10 pups and 5 pups. We are so excited... we werent sure that she would have any girls (which is what we want) but first little had 8 girls! We get to go and visit and choose in i think 2 weeks.

Any hint of what to look for etc? Ideally i would like a dog that isnt really energetic but can still play with the kids and go for a decent walk when we want. Also need a.very social one as we have cats and my parents are looking at getting a lab so we would like them to get along.

Cute! Typically, the breeder will match the dog to the family. I did not get to pick my puppy, I told the breeder what I was looking for, the activity level of my family, what sports and training I was planning to do, and she picked my puppy for me.

My DH fell in love with Tali online, and as soon as they met she went to him like it was magic. I have always heard that being there in person is the best way to find your soul mate doggy, and I think that is true. The boldest dog, the most reticent dog...probably not the best pic. Find a pup that finds you too.

Some breeders pick the pup they think will be best for the adoptive family and some breeders allow the adopter to choose their puppy.
If you chose look for a pup that will come to you and will socialize with you and your family.

The last few purebred puppies I've bought, I made sure the breeder knew what I was looking for and they determined which pup was the best fit for me.

I'm posting from my phone and don't know how to post a link but Google volhard puppy aptitude test, it will give you some ideas. And post more pics when you can! :)

The more I read, and after going through buying my first pup, I would prefer that a reputable, knowledgeable breeder pick my puppy... When we went to visit the puppies, Lillie was sleeping in a puppy pile. I never even met her, my pick was "number 2", I thought we were destined for each other, lol. But Lillie is absolutely perfect, and everything I was looking for, my breeder new better than me! On top of that, my boyfriend had an entirely different pick than me, and we didn't end up with that puppy, either.

My breeder explained that when people come to meet the puppies, they almost all choose the same one - the one that is most precocious, most outgoing and "finds" them... but that one is usually too much dog for most people.

But Liz_M is right, if you are picking a puppy, I would really try to objectively evaluate the puppies based on the aptitude test and not just on the basis of which one "steals your heart". You might also want to search on youtube as well for some demos of how to administer the test.

Back in the old days they use to pick the puppy up by the tail and if it didn't squeal it was acceptable.
We have come a long way as Hoomans.

Oh my, what a pile of cuteness. I'm curious though, how does the breeder tell them apart? Usually there are different color ribbons as collars, or something like that. First Rottweiler I bought, the breeder kept each one's toenail painted in some sort of order, I don't recall, so they could keep track.

Visited the puppies today... so adorable. Will be hard to choose. But wont be disappointed. . All beautiful and mumma watched over us visiting her babies. . So lovely.
