Project Share/Help

So I don't usually do this but I decided to put myself out there to get my second novel finished. I have it a 1/3 done and want to take the time to focus on it solely. There is a wonderful project fundraiser that you can do called indiegogo so I joined it and have a project started. If anyone wants to check out my project and give me some crit, that would be great. (or fund it if you would really like to:)) Even just following or liking the page would be a great help as the more hits the page gets, the better chance I will have to get onto the main fundraising spotlight and that will help take it all the way.

Anyway, here it is:

I'm writing to let you know about 'Murders Of Lillian Ross Novel'

Take a moment to check it out on Indiegogo and also share it with your friends. All the tools are there. Get perks, make a contribution, or simply follow updates. If enough of us get behind it, we can make 'Murders Of Lillian Ross Novel' happen.

I had a horrible experience the last time I was asked to edit/critique someone's novel. It wasn't terribly long, think the manuscript was 200 pages or thereabouts, but it was godawful. I kept having to correct basic sentence structure and easy grammar (they're/their/there, shone/shown, to/too) and this was written by someone who went to school - and graduated - to be an English teacher. All of this is completely unrelated to your request, just sayin'.

LOL, I meant to crit the page, not the novel. I have worked as an editor many times and often want to claw my own eyes out after reading some of the things. Don't get me started on the grammar mistakes my kids come home and tell me they are learning. I always start chewing about it and tell them the proper way. When I send my stuff to editors, I always edit it about a dozen times before I send it out. Still, I miss things when I am doing my own work because everything starts to blend together after looking for so long. My first novel was edited dozens of times and one review mentioned how the editing was really tight...then I went through, reread the novel after publication and started cursing because I found 5 errors. :) No matter how much I try, a novel is never finished.

Hooray for fellow grammar hounds :) The writer I worked with swore up and down that so and so told her this and such a teacher told her that and I had to go digging through the MLA guidelines to prove her wrong. She was also trying (points for that, I suppose) to insert dialect into her character's conversations but it was neither consistent nor identifiable as belonging to any particular region. A highly-bred priestess type (yup, it was that kind of book) was being made to speak Cockney, with snatches of Outback and the occasional Clampet. It was ridiculous.
I'll check the page tomorrow at home.

Thanks for the help. Yes, the inner editor is a horrible thing and has ruined countless books for me. My major pet peeve in books is when they use tired cliches.

Thanks to those who checked out the project for me. I have received two contributions already and hopefully the traffic will get it noticed some more. Just wanted to say thanks.)
