We rescued her six months ago she is eight years old and right from the start she was peeing in the house. We realized she didn't realize she was doing it we thought at first she was just peeing in her sleep but noticed her sitting there leaking while awake. At first we cut down on water cuz she does not stop drinking water she will literally drink until she pukes and cutting down on the water seems to be the only way to help control the issue. I thought maybe it was due to an infection so I got a script of antibiotics and gave her a full weeks dose and it seemed to help for about a week but still not cured. What else can cause a dog to be incontinent? And what else can I do to curve the peeing and is cutting down the water to 3 cups a day ok?

It's fairly common for female dogs who were spayed young to become incontinent when they get older. We had a female basset hound who became incontinent. We were able to control it with medication. She was on proin for years and didn't have a problems. I would take her to the vet and see what he recommends.

Has she been in to see the vet? I would want her to have a physical exam, complete blood test including thyroid, and a urinalysis. It might be spay incontinence. I had a boxer girl that had to wear a diaper for the last five years of her life. If the vet rules out any infection, then there are some other options. Proin is one. It had bad side effects for my girl and we quit using it, so definitely do your research if that's offered to you. Some other more natural things that can help, but not totally solve the problem, are parsley and corn silk. There are some others, but I can't think of them off the top of my head and the parsley and corn silk worked best for us. I, personally, don't like to cut the water too much. Drinking that much is something to mention to the vet as well. They may want to test for things like Cushings and Diabetes.

I agree with seeing a vet. Over-consumption of water might be a physical problem (kidney issue comes to mind), or an obsessive-compulsive behavior that you need to work on (lots of other goodies for redirecting to, and sufficient exercise to keep her relaxed in the house, to start). Did they tell you why she needed a new home at 8 years old? Could have been the incontinence issue... which hopefully is a hormonal problem that can be solved with supplements or the proin... a vet should be able to help you determine what's needed. OnlyNaturalPet.com has some herbal supplements for urinary support... but I'd talk to a vet first and get their recommendations.

:nothing: :welcome: to the forum. Sorry to hear about your doggie. Hope with the advice given here and a vet visit you can get it under control. Feel free to share a photo, we'd love to ogle over her.

Agree, excessive drinking should be checked as a symptom of a medical issue and a urinalysis should be done if not already. As far as incontinence there are a few different medications that can stop the leaking. My girl is on prion and DES. She rarely leaks if she gets her meds. Some people also use Corn Silk as a natural treatment.

My female JRT had these issues when she had a UTI. But I agree with the advice already given^^ that a vet visit is in order, the excessive drinking would be very concerning for me.

My first thought was a UTI. If she's drinking lots she will pee lots. Maybe she us trying to flush her system.
I'd personally not remover her water. If she is drinking it she needs it.
I'd also agree with getting tested at the vets.
Who knows she may be spay or age incontinent compounded by an infection.
