My 'Corso' sort of looks like a pitbull...

So,

As some of you may know, I got Agnes through a co-worker when she was approx 9 weeks old as she was too much work for them. I contacted the original 'breeders' of her and they were about as helpful as tits on a bull in how she should grow, etc.

Agnes was supposed to be a 'Cane Corso' but I have no way of confirming this besides word.

I brought her to the vet for her second set of shots over this weekend and the vet expressed concerns about how slowly she is growing compared to other mastiffs he has seen. He said that for what should be a big dog, she is not growing very quickly and is still remaining quite skinny (she was uncomfortably skinny when I first got her but has filled out quite a bit in the last 4 weeks).

Honestly, she has the body of a boxer. And she is often times confused with a 'pit bull' (and from my eye and from having a few pitbull pups in my day, honestly, she sort of looks like a staffy pup right now) by the shape of her head.

I have no problems with her ending up being a pitbull and love her regardless of her breed or history. However, the province that I live in has a ban on pitbulls and 'pitbull-like dogs.'

The humane society in my city recently had to ship two dogs out of province to get adopted for being pitbulls (they were 'confirmed' pitbulls through one of those DNA swap tests) and the city I live in is pretty strict on the law.

Honestly, I am just worried. Do Corsos look like pitbulls for awhile and then change? The only thing making me question the pitbull thing is that her skin is loose and not tight like a pitbull but she is also a pup and I honestly forget as it's been awhile since I had a puppy let alone a pitbull.

Agnes was around 11lbs when I got her at 8/9 weeks. She is approx 12-13 weeks now and we are looking at 20lbs. I will try and get some updated pictures of her shortly. But yea, is there a pitbull-looking phase?

Do you have a pic? It's true, some CC's are mistaken for pits, even though they have a bigger muzzle than pits.

I have had my Cane Corso mistaken for a pit bull, but not by a Vet or any dog knowlegable person.
Send us a picture. My now 10 week old Cane Corso weighs 22 Pounds and I know my 1st now 3 years old weighed around 15 pounds at this age.
So your weight isnt all that far off the mark.

I will try and get some good pictures of her tonight. I am at work so I have nothing that good saved on my computer as far as pictures to be able to actually tell a difference with her. On her Introductions post there's a decent picture of her actual body but she was a bit lankier then haha.

I will try and get some good ones tonight and report back to you guys with them :)

Haha! And a skinny little body :p she is a goofy one that's for sure :). Regardless, you all have calmed my nerves a lot. Thank you! I love her to pieces! I am not exactly educated in her breed but reading here helps a lot and she teaches me every day! :) I came home today to her jumping for joy that I was home and then settled on the couch to her doing the puppy head tilt. Since yesterday, her 'jowls' came in more. <3

I think I may be letting what people on the street say affect it a lot. Haha! She also got lab and rotti a couple days ago haha! :) I just have to accept that whatever she is, she is going to be guessed something else. :) Maybe one day I will invest in one of those DNA tests haha! :p

She looks Cane to me, her face especially is not terrier. My girl only weighed 25 lbs around that age, but she is packing then on now.

Looks like a CC and fingers crossed everything comes back as such. Not because its something against pits but because of the guidlines out by u. Tough situation i wish u much luck. U have a beautiful pup :) When Marco was 8 weeks they would begin to ask but ppl noticed his coat was furrier. The pit coat has more of a sleek skin tight coat IMO. Tomorrow he turns 12 wks and he weighs 35.6lbs. Idk if that is too fast or too slow. I have a vet visit coming up... Our regular vet of our other pets. However we seen the vet for the ear cropping and he said he was doing fine. We go thru the same thing... We had a handful of ppl saying he looks too skinny. We feed him 3 cups a day split in 2 feedings. But because i practice training with him thru out the day he prob has another 1/2 cup of food. The treats are similar to his dry food. The trainer also had asked me his diet and then said nah we r doing fine. He said we wouldnt want to pack on the pounds now too early. I think the one give away is his huge paws and his long legs. His muzzle looks mastiff-ish depending on his position. Hopefully you can keep him. They are such cuddle buddies wanting to always be next to us that falling in love with the bond is instant. Good luck.

Thank goodness for this comunity it is great to share and hear from others who come across the same things. :)

Omg how awesome are u! That is super that u wouldnt quit. I see she found her family. I could never give up our zoo either! They are so smart arent they? Mine has mastered selective hearing, hahahaha. He listens well but he goes into his troublemaker mode and then does the fake out if we chase him away from something. Think of a football player trying tl get to the end zone.... Does the faking to the left.... Quick pivot to the right and darts off in thr other direction. If i can upload the video i will. Just Hilarious.

Pure corso from what I can see. Mine was skinny (not as skinny as yours) and some people, when looking at pictures, thought they saw some Pit there, but it is just that they haven't seen any Corsos, and their experience of "real" Pits is limited. (There's a big ban here of Pits, Staffords and any mix - they all have special licensing needs. They also, have to wear muzzles and be microchipped, neutered/spayed and (I heard this from an owner...don't know if it is true...grain of salt here...but GPS uploaded)
She told me that they had to be able to locate any Pit to rule out their being involved in any dog attack. Sounds extreme.

Your girl looks like a darling. So sweet. Yeah, I'd move to protect mine. She's precious.

usually when I go downtown with my pup everyone asks me if she is a pit, or a boxer... you know the normal... but I know where I live to many people have never seen a CC. Don't let it bother you, your pup looks like a cc with no doubt.

She looks like a CC to me! Our Gio is almost 9 months now and just about 80 lbs so we call him our "Teacup Mastiff" :) They all grow at such different rates based on genetics so there's no rhyme or reason for what she should look like at 3 months. Enjoy your little cuddlebug while she's still small! Gio still sits on my lap but it's definitely a little more painful now!
