Aw, Digit looks like a real sweetheart... :)

A far as Mateo's temperament...yes, and no. He is a very confident and happy boy...mellow, stable disposition, who does appreciate getting attention from complete strangers (or, at worst, is indifferent.) He really seems to like people, and is good with interacting with them, no matter how weird they may be (although he is more "guardy" at night when we walk together-- which I kind of appreciate.)

But, with other dogs, he is much less tolerant of nonsense-- i.e. rude, aggressive behavior. He will watch them, and let things pass for a period of weeks or so, but if the same dog keeps getting in his face....it's game on. And, because I know this, and because I know that at some point when he reaches the end of his tolerance things can go from zero to 100 in a split second (yes, they are powerful dogs!), I have become very good at stopping anything before it starts. We have worked on this, together. But to say I've never had my jeans ripped on the pavement from a Dogue that wants to even a score, would be telling you a lie, lol.

But, overall, I could not be more pleased with my boy, my first Dogue, and have learned a lot along the way. I have fallen hard for this breed, and although he's my first, I am sure Mateo will not be my last Bordeaux...love this boy!

I really love your Mateo. And he still sits like a puppy, lol.
Reading what you wrote on his temperament with people, it is exactly like my BM Lomu. With other dogs my boy is "still" the same way he is with people but he is turning 9 months so I know that may change in the near future

Great photo! That's a face that just begs to be smothered in kisses. He keeps getting more handsome all the time.

Yes, Mateo is a master of the hot summer, lazy, sloppy sit, lol.

I remember when Mateo's hormones started flowing, and his attitude shifted towards other (male) dogs....right around 10 months or so. Up until then, he was everybody's playmate, and everybody's favorite chew toy (there was one dog that loved to just drag him around by his neck rolls--- and Mateo thought it was great fun!).

Then, things started changing a bit... the staring, the the challenges...even his walk became more adult and male-like (i.e. he held himself in a more "assured" manner, if that makes sense.) Anyway, I had to get on top of things before he started making decisions on his own that would end in lots of bloody fights...

I knew ahead of time that this would happen... that most likely his attitude about other males would become more reserved and/or confrontational, but it still caught me by surprise when it did- my bad! After my learning curve, though, things settled down, and we are working as a team again. He still has a few male dogs as good buddies, and of course, a LOT of girlfriends--- the bitches literally swoon and flirt like crazy when they see him, lol!

By the way, when can we see more pics of your Lomu?

I think Lomu is starting to change.
I was on holidays in a little farm in the South and the neighbours had a couple of dogs. One was an impressive Rafeiro do Alentejo (Alentejo/Portuguese mastiff, depending on the translation) the other was a smaller mongrel. Every evening the sunset was vocal from both sides: lots of barking ..challenging barking if that makes sense.
One night I was walking outside the house and suddenly saw the two dogs had jumped the fence and were walking towards Lomu in a very aggressive manner (curled bodies and so). A couple of months ago Lomu would have backed and/or adopted a passive posture. But this time I saw him walking towards the two dogs growling and with the same body posture.
Luckily I was there and was able to chase the dogs away and nothing happened but it was close. I have no doubts it would have been a very bad experience for Lomu and that the two other (adult) dogs would have made damage. But anyway I saw a differente posture from my pupp It was a warning for me...

As regards the pics... can you believe I was there for 10 days and don´t have a single pic to show...(my bad). But I am taking a couple in the next days and will post them here
