And be sure to wipe their mouth or they are gonna use your pants as a towel. 
I didn't always have her tethered to me i would let her drag her leash around when i was able to watch her, that way i could grab the leash to stop whatever it was that she wasn't supposed to do.

Id just add, if you are doing it for extended period, make a point of visiting the water bowl for pup fairly often
