Hello,

I stumbled across this website and wanted to say hello to everyone from NJ.

I consider myself a responsible dog owner and recently said goodbye to my Cane Corso of just over 12 years. He was my second cane corso, and the first was with us just under one year.
The Cane Corso was not our first dog, but the first dominant breed we owned. It was a great experience and I have huge respect and admiration of large breeds.
He was a great Guardian of our home and family, yet very accepting of family and tolerant with children. We clearly defined our home perimeter and were on top of obedience training as well as socialization early on. Never had any issues, and he knew his place within our family well.

Currently I am considering a new puppy and a new breed. (Presa Canario)
Everything I read says you must be experienced with large dominant breeds to consider a Presa, and I am trying to determine if I am ready.
Any thoughts on the main challenges of a Presa Canario versus having owned a Cane Corso?

Either way hello to all an I hope to gain some insight from current Presa owners! Thanks.

Welcome aboard and I'm sorry to hear about losing your CC. :(

We have a couple of Presa owners and hopefully they will offer you some advice re: the breed. Here are some Presa owners that you may want to send a private message to: MNPresa, Lukasdad and PanzerGirl. Do a search for their name, view their profile and send a private message.

I don't have any corso xperience but i will guess they are similar to presas, you will have to be carefull with their prey, bite and defense drive but if like you say you are responsable enough and have some big dog xperience i guess you'll be fine, you'll have to trust your feelings and if you think your ready go ahead presas are great dogs. Just remember you're not getting a lab and you'll need discipline, consistensy and lots of patience.

I also went from the corso to the presa. been nothing but happy about the switch. I liked my corso, great breed but am of the opinion the presa brings more to the table for what I am looking for. the presa is like the corso in that the line of dog you own is almost more important than the actual breed.
