Today is Diesel's 3rd Birthday!!!!! My boy has come such a long way since the day we brought him home. He was a teeny four week old puppy when we brought him home.
and he proceeded to grow about 2 lbs a week until he reached his current 78 lb size.
When we first brought him home he was tiny and helpless and I spent the first two weeks sleeping with him on a pile of towels and pillows on the bathroom floor. I would wake up ever hour to rush him into the yard and do the potty dance if we made it out in time.
He was a smart little guy and he picked stuff up fast. He was also a stubborn guy and if he didn't feel like it was worth it to him he would refuse to perform tricks. Potty we got down quickly because he loved rushing outside and doing potty dance. He learned the potty bell because it got him outside time. He learned to not nip us after another puppy nipped him incessantly in puppy preschool because he connected the dots. Nipping isn't fun or nice.
Diesel and I went to countless classes together. We started with puppy preschool. Then we went to puppy obedience 1 at three different schools and completed each. We then did puppy obedience two at two different schools and completed that. We did agility class (which he adores). We did urban herding (not so much a success because he just wanted to fetch the balls not herd them). And we watched countless youtube videos and learned tricks on our own. Walks and hikes and trips to the beach and games of fetch and sharing my health snacks (carrots, blueberries, etc.) and so so many cuddles in bed.
And he learned the things I never taught him that I didn't know I needed like killing insect intruders and supporting me through anxiety attacks and walking alongside me when my eyes issue flare up and I can't see. This little DDB, staffordshire, boxer mutt we picked up from a family desperate to rid themselves of an unexpected litter has brought so much love and joy into our lives and I am so thankful for every moment I have had with him and every moment in our future together.
This morning started with me singing Happy Birthday to him and sharing carrots before running off to work. And yes he did appreciate his song. His tail was wagging like mad and he leaned into my legs. Happy boy. Tonight a large bone waits for him. Tomorrow I have permission to get off work early and we will be spending the afternoon together at the park.
Happy Birthday Diesel! We love you so very much and I can't wait to get home to you and continue celebrating your day. <3
