  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Going to have forbid our little friend to come over...

We get together with friends every Sat for gourmet night and have a blast. Here's the thing... they bought a tiny "chiweenie" mix puppy in Dec and she and our Grady (now 9 months) love each other and play the whole time. BUT, she isn't the best house trained puppy and Grady is doing great and never has accidents but has started to mark. So I have caught HER peeing in the house while we are cooking, goofing off and then inevitably... Grady finds the spot and marks it with his big ole mastiff pee. It's only happened twice now but I'm wondering how to approach the topic. I know it's our problem that Grady is marking where the female pup is peeing... but I think I'm going to have to ask them not to bring her over if she keeps peeing in my house. It's brand new carpet to boot and I hate that it's going to be ruined much faster if this keeps up. Any ideas? I love the tiny wonder (she's 4lbs) and it's great for Grady to be around other dogs, especially tiny ones so he knows to be gentle. I don't want to offend our friends. Thanks for any advice!!! Am I being to uptight??? Their puppy is 7 months.

NO! You are NOT being too uptight. This is a bad cycle that once it starts is difficult to end. I brought Daisy home when I had 3 small dogs who were potty trained for years. While Daisy was learning to potty train my Alpha male pom had to mark over her accidents. Now I've got 2 of my 3 poms peeing/marking in the house and I'm having a bear of a time getting it to stop. Daisy quit having accidents after about 3 weeks but I can't catch the little ones in the act enough to stop the behavior. *sigh*

How about them bringing a crate and ya'll only let her out when ya'll can watch her? Housebreaking her to you house.

Thanks! I was hoping I wasn't being ridiculous. Angel bears... Good idea. The only thing is that the tiny punk is so little and black that it's hard to see her and catch her doing it since our new carpet is dark charcoal and the teeny amount of pee is tough to spot until its too late. Ha. I am going to suggest that though. The crate. Can't have the vicious cycle continuing.

And dpenning... I feel for you too. We bought this awesome carpet because Grady was trained! It's like starting over with someone else's dog!

We kinda planned for it. Before Daisy came home we had carpet ripped out of the family room and had ceramic tile put down and bought a cheap area rug from Home Depot. So for the most part it is on tile and when the rug gets to the point where my steam cleaner can't fix it we'll get a new one. Hopefully I will have caught the little rugrats in the act by then and put a stop to the problem! :) Good luck, I hope the crate idea works for you.
