flooring question

We have carpet and are switching to either tile or hardwood flooring in our hallway, LR and DR.

Aside from the chance that the dogs may scratch the hardwood flooring, has anyone here experienced a regret with having either floor and two adult Filas?

thanks

If you go with the synthetics there really tough. We have old oak in our house the kids and the dog don't really hurt it any.

We have hard wood floor boards throughout the whole house, its old antique flooring and quite worn and scratched in places and I quite like it like that. P7030018.jpgP7030019.jpg This is my kitchen and hallway, we live in a bungalow. IMO you cant really see the scratches that much. They are easy to clean and you can always sand them back and revarnish every 5 years or so if you wanted to.

We have tile in the LR and kitchen. I can't think of any downside to having it. We have laminate in the hallway and office but we're planning on tearing that up, as well as the carpet in the bedrooms, and putting down hardwood instead. I'm not worried about any scratches that may occur, it's the hollow sound of the synthetic flooring that bugs me.

The only downside I can see with tile (depends on type) and laminate is they will be very slippery and may be hard on a dogs hips and joints which as we all know is not good for our large and giant breed friends. There is a Great Dane rescue here in the UK that insists if you have laminate flooring you put rugs down.

Filas seem to do ok on tile. But on hardwood including fake hardwood I have seen them fall flat on their belly like they were on ice. This can and has led to injury to hips and joints. I have also seen filas who are reluctant or refuse to go in that room for fear of falling.

Delilah slides on it. She will run and lock her legs and slide. She has wiped out sliding the area rug though and she slides the couch when she jumps on it.

We put down engineered hardwoods, prefinished with a hard-to-scratch surface (us humans have scratched it in a few places, but the dogs haven't yet).

We do put rugs everywhere, though - especially at the top and bottom of stairs. Our last dog liked to leap down the stairs (our small 60# bulldog mix). He would have slid out the front door if the rug wasn't there to slow him down.

OK sorry your house is beautiful, feel like I'm looking in a magazine.

I rent but I have tile and laminate flooring. The tile is pretty cheap and damages easily, the laminate though is pretty tough considering I have rambunctious mastiffs playing on it, haven't seen a scratch on it.

:ummm: Are you sure it's real tile? I can't imagine a dog's claws, or anything I could do, that would damage tile. We have Saltillo tile in our house so it already comes with character. We don't have to worry about any scratches or dings.

Lol our bull terrier used to do that. There was a turn at the bottom more than once her butt went through the wall at the bottom.

Thank you DD and mklamcc for the lovely comments on my house. its taken a lot of hard work, time and money to get it to any sort of reasonable standard. the bunglaow was my husbands grandmothers before she passed away and we bought it from my inlaws. we had to COMPLETELY gut the whole thing. Rip out the kitchen, bathroom, take the walls back to bare plaster, tear down the ceilings, lift the floors etc. It took us months and months but we are getting there slowly but surely. Back to the subject of floors...we have never had a problem with our two slipping on hardwood floors as I dont keep them waxed or oiled at all.

I have tile in the kitchen and laminate flooring in the livingroom. The laminate is pretty indestructible. The tile has some cracks in it from Ripley dropping large heavy toys onto it. I think if I was to get tile again I would make sure it was rated for very high traffic. A large bone and one of those giant nylabones were what cracked our tile floor.

I have slate tiles in my porch and chipped one by dropping a tin of dog food...slate looks great but not for the clumsy or toy chuckers

I have tile in 85% of my house. Only rooms with carpet are the 2 bedrooms. I have a couple rugs laying around too & my dogs never have problems. The tile has more of a rough sort of texture to it. My parents house they have stained concrete & tile. Their tile is super slick & I've counted numerous times Duchess has lost control of her legs & just fell flat on her face. However, it didn't help that she was chasing the other dogs & it was more so when she was a clumsy puppy. She's more careful now.

Your hard work has paid off that's for sure! I'm still waiting to buy my first home, LOL. But when I do any carpet will be GONE, as I do like like it.
