You can deduct dog food, shots, travel expenses, the amount you purchased your dog for, if you can prove you will make a profit of showing/breeding for a 2 year period. (I didn't give you the tax info though lol) and we have more deductions taken out of our paychecks durning the year and get on average between 5-13 thousand back each year and take a family vacation. This way we don't spend it throughout the year, I know bad savings account lol

I don't even consider looking at mine until April. They took 24K out of my income in 2012 for federal taxes but I know I still owe. :-( I really hate taxes.

Just Apollo's food cost takes care of any "profit" I might be making off of him. In a lifetime never mind 2 years!

:lala: I'm sorry, I don't understand why people loan money to the government for a year interest free. I try to get my return as close to $0 as possible so I can actually have my money work for me. /soapbox

I wasnt going to say anything.. Ill be damned if Ima let the gubment make interest off my money.. it'd bad enough I paid XXk in taxes last year and now its only increasing..

We've been working on reducing our return. If it wasn't for the solar panels we put in this past year our return would have only been a couple hundred $, which is about where I want it cause that leaves us some leeway. But when I did the paperwork for the panals it turns out we're getting an even larger refund than originally predicted for them. On the other hand it means that my car is about to become completely paid off.....

I got a new job last year that I started in mid May. What I don't understand is I seemed to pay way more in taxes at my old job from Jan 1 to May 13 than I did at my new job from May 14 to Dec 31. I know when I started both jobs I filled out the W4 exactly the same. I guess that's why my tax return is less bc I'm not paying as much in taxes with my current job? I don't know lol

most likely. We've been slowly reducing how much we're paying so that we're not giving the .gov an interest free loan. But I think I like where we are right now. A couple hundred refund gives us some breathing room if something changes.

Wasn't the IRS giving tax breaks a couple years ago for purchasing a new vehicle?

If you work from your house there is a possibility you can write off your entire vehicle, depending on your employment status, I think, contract etc.. I'm not sure because I use a cpa to do mine to help get all the relief I can. I know I write off a new truck every three years using my contractor LLC. Also, phones, food, fuel, hotels, airfare, and quite a bit more. It's a pia trying to keep up with everything but worth it in the end..

You can get a tax break if you go make me a sammich... promise...

If you work from home you can deduct the depreciation of the square footage of the space you use, gas, power, ect. But how much depends on the state you live in, I'm just lucky that Wyoming has no state tax :)

If you start deducting a portion of "depreciation" on your house you may have to pay taxes if/when you sell your home when normally you wouldn't.

I don't own my home, I rent. I think I'm definitely going to have a professional do my taxes next year. Granted I don't make a whole lot of money, but I am comfortable. I just file a 1040EZ online for free so I'm sure I'm getting jipped somewhere.

Oh, then if you're working out of your home I'm sure you could deduct a portion of your rent and utilities if you can prove that a certain portion of your house is used either primarily or mostly for business.
