Fila meeting an agitator

An agitator is coming out Sat. morning. At this point, I’m not going to let Cane or Ziva take a bite. Is there anything that can be learned from this? I know that this is not how your supposed to do it but until I’m comfortable with the agitator, I’m not going to take a chance.

Over the last 2 years no one has been within 20 feet of Cane, really more like 100 feet. People just don’t come near when I have him out, plus he is out in the backyard, on a leash with me. I want to see what he will do if some one will come up to the fence(chain link) and basically get within a couple of feet of him, not showing any fear. Hell, he might piss himself and run into the house.

So any suggestions on how to put some pressure on him under this scenario?

LOL! Thanks Ruth, I just got a new laptop, that has windows 8. When I hit the enter key it doesn't give me a paragraph break. Any suggestion? Only seems to be in this forum.

In your browser settings see if you've got javascript turned on. I accidently turned mine off a while back and suddenly couldn't do paragraphs....took me a day or so to figure it out.

don't have a fence between him and the person (almost any dog is ferocious behind a fence). maybe tie him off to fence if you're afraid you might not be able to hold him.

Well ive seen people use fences for confidence boosters im sure the decoy will know when to back off, but if he takes to long to back off of that gate after your pups go nuts I would tell him too...and id also make sure hes not doing wild prey movements matters less in a fila but still you want to know what there gonna do with just a shady person coming on your property not just someone flailing there arms with a stick around...id love to hear how he does are you going to escalate it or just leaving it there?

I have had several dogs (labs, dachsunds) that all will go "fence guard" looking like they will eat a person and when people actually walk in behind the fence they just run up and sniff. the idea that you will know what kind of temperament your dog has behind a fence is not possible.

Chuck, I just really want too see if Cane still has that fire. I stopped taking him in the front yard, (no fence) because he almost got one guy and if he decides to go I can't hold him back. Lately, he seems to have really mellowed out but there really has been nothing for him to go off about.

Tiger, I'm not sure how far I'm going to take it. The guy really wants to take a bite but I really don't want a lawsuit. Until I'm sure he can handle 170 pound dog there is no way I'm going to take a chance.

I might let him present a sleeve at the fence. If Cane hits it, do you think that is enough to indicate that he would take it to what ever level he needed to?

Zebraworks, I understand what your saying. I want to at least see that he puts on one hell of a show fence guarding. Then maybe go from there.

Welcome back AB, missed ya. :)

I don't have any suggestions I just did a "home invasion" with Thor. Hopefully Cane and Ziva will open cans.
