THe problem with alot of the literature is that the studies were often done with 'average sized dogs' such as labs, GSDs, and other highly common breeds that almost never get over the 100lb mark. So they state age ranges where they recommend not neutering before then....except if you read between the lines what they're saying is wait till 'mostly grown' but all everyone see's are the age ranges. The extra big dogs like we all have take longer to reach that point and so need the horomones longer, except that even alot of vets will argue about that unless they have a TON of experience with these larger dogs. The horomones actually affect the growth plates for example.
