EM Food question

I'm new to the forum, also to Mastiffs, and have enjoyed reading thru the forum some today. I've seen things on the importance of a balanced diet w/ the giant breeds, but I haven't seen hardly anyone mentioning specific brands of food. What food is best? I mean the name brand. I know it's a matter of opinion and specific dog, but I'd like 2 hear what ya'll think.
My EM is 8weeks old btw and I've had him for about 36hrs, that's why I'm asking.

Someone I'm sure will post the full post of this, but there really is not a bet food, it's really what fit there requirements, and they like.

Oh and expect a flood of requests for pics of the new furry family member.

Your pup will enjoy junk food more than the good stuff. The trick is to find which good one is the least unbearable option.
My personal favourites are Acana and Orijen. I also like FirstMate. Earthborn Holistic is very highly recommended but I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet. Taste of the Wild is widely recommended as well.

I feed American Natural Premium grain free Buffalo to my puppies and then switch to American Natural Premium Original around 6 months of age. Both are all life stages and all of my dogs have done really well on it, it is made by Fromm but unfortunately it is only found in the upper Midwest, MN, IA, WI and IL.

I have also fed, with good results: Solid Gold Wolf King, Taste of the Wild as well as Eagle Pack Holistic Select, and those would be easier to find.

Congrats on your new addition

I started Moxie on the Wellness puppy for large breeds, she did well for a while, then started getting chronic ear infections which of course I thought was unrelated for a while, then the Vet told me she may be having an allergic reaction, I tried many of the brands(with SLOW transition to new food) that have already been listed and found that she responded pretty well to the Rabbit meat in the RAW form... However they started having a rabbit shortage and I went back to the "Wellness Core" original flavor..... ALL has been good since then, she has no ear infections and has maintained weight, her coat is beautiful and no other symptoms like she had with all the other foods.

If you start running into food allergy problems, message me, I had quite a history with my girl.

Thanks, will do. Took him to the Vet today 4 8week shots and just a check up since I just got him Saturday, and the Vet reccomended Pro Plan Focus...This Vet, luckily, has experience w/ EMs and Bullmastiffs and said she's never had a case of joint problems from that food. Talked about the correct ratio of calcium and phosphorus...think I'll give that a try first. She said after a year, I could switch to something else.

Stay away from grocery or big box store dog food. You want an all stages or adult food. Check the nutrition section here for ratios and advice. I have used Earthborn Holistic Meadow Feast- http://www.earthbornholisticpetfood.com/us/dog_formulas/meadow_feast/ for 2 1/2 yrs. now with great results. Some/most Mastiffs seem to have trouble with chicken and grain (check treats close). Any chicken by-products or turkey and I have loose, mushy BMs. Your boy is a sweetie. Enjoy puppyhood, they grow up so fast.
