Hey all I'm new to this forum and am looking at getting a DDB I have read that males do not get on with other male dogs, but can't find any info if they get on with bitchs.
The reason I ask this is I currently have a 4 year old rottie bitch and I'm wanting to get her a play mate and just love the French Mastiff!
Do you experinced DDB owners think a young Male pup would get on with my bitch?
I know she will be fine hehe she loves the boys;) But from what I have read I would like to Know if male DDB get on with bitchs.

Any info would be very welcome

THANKS

It depends. We have a 3 year old female EM that moose and crete (both DDB) adore, actually all our dogs adore her, she is queen. Getting a puppy would help to because then the pup would grow up with her.

We have a 5 yr/old male and a 7 month old male, both DDB's and they get along great. I've read everything regarding two males in the same house, but the bottom line was I spoke with my breeder, vet and trainer and they all reassured me that with the temperament of my 5 yr/old that we would have no problem. These dogs are best friends, it was the best decision we have ever made. It really boils down to how your rottie is.

Thanks for your help I rekon they will be just fine together, as if I get a pup and he grows up with her I'm sure they will be the best of buddys.

Rudsee,

I wouldn't be too worried about bringing a male puppy into your home with a female already there. I brought my boy into a home with a 9 yr old dominate female Chow that disliked all dogs except for the brother she grew up with who passed away. Bailey (Chow) would give a slight growl, or a nip here and there to put Barkley (DDB) in check if he was getting out of line too much without ever hurting him. She'll still put him in check and he towers over her. I think having an older female dog in the household would be a good role model for your DDB. Teach him some good doggie manners. Barkley is now 2 and does great with all female dogs he meets in public so don't stress out too much on it.

If you haven't already found a DDB, good luck on your search. They are an amazing breed and the biggest, snuggling lovers I've ever met!

We got our male DDB first then when he was a year old we got our female DDB. Our female, Koopa Troopa, totally rules the roost! No major issues apart from the odd nip/growl to remind him who's boss. Bowser, our boy, is the biggest sook going so him being in charge was never going to be an issue. Most male DDBs are not dominant so a pup should be fine with your female rottie.

Brian Emu Bottom 056 - Copy.jpg We have just got Brian, the DDB, he gets on really well with the rottie cross bordeaux in pic. they both enjoy a bit of body slamming wrestling type of play. My rottie can win at moment, as the grass kennel is way to scary for Brian to enter. So she hides in there, and jumps him as he goes past.
Brian did try to resource gaurd me from my two dogs when he arrived. But a few "outside" alone 2mins, put a stop to that.
