Do I send Mooshi away?

so Ruth--what's the deal with TM's cycle, I've read some stuff, but nothing goes into detail-aside from they have 1 cycle per year & something about that cycle is different?

all I can get online trying to dig through the crap, is stuff like "it is similar to the wolf's cycle"--but haven't found anything reputable that actually says what is different.

No way am I breeding anything, dog or otherwise, I just find it fascinating that there's such a difference, so just curious to know more.

I really get why Mooshi's mom is so stressed about it, you've got 1 shot per year, not like you get a "do-over" in a few months.

But it's also pretty cool that AI is an option, (though wouldn't want to be the one collecting that specimen, I imagine the dog is pretty pleased...)

There are a FEW bitches who do have a 2nd cycle in the spring (and there's some arguments about breeding those bitches). But TMs have an actual breeding season, in most cases the bitch will go into heat Oct-Nov, with some as early as mid Sept and as late as mid Dec. Among other things this predictability makes it MUCH easier to manage the cycle. Regular dogs are in THEORY every 6 months, but as alot of folks with intact bitches can tell you its not always that straight forward.

The downside to this is that the males ALSO get hormonal during this breeding season. And although no one's done a study to confirm it officially there's often a sperm count difference between sperm collected out of season and sperm collected in season (sperm count is often MUCH higher in season).

Ok, so it's been a while--what happened?
Hoping everything is OK with both you & Mooshi.
