Corso causing trouble again!

Leo, the love of my life, is such a trouble maker. He learned to open our front door very early on. I'd say around 3 months old. Today he turned on our water spicket. Almost 6 months old now. He has this thing about destroying all of our nice landscaping. Our rhododendrons were first. The arborvitaes were next, and now he found the water spicket. I would have loved to see the look on his face the moment that water came rushing out. Maybe that scared him enough to leave it alone.

Not sure how I feel about having such a smart trouble maker.

Speaking of being scared. I take Leo down to put my daughters on the bus every morning. It took him weeks to not be scared of the squeaking of the brakes and the other sounds the bus makes. He now is starting to get his confidence up, and puts on a nice tough show. Looking all stately while the bus takes our girls. Even to the point where he is stepping towards the bus instead of away. This morning the door opened as usual, and Leo looked fierce. Then the bus driver sneezed and Leo jumped. He quickly regained his composure only to have the driver sneeze again, he turned quickly, and the 3rd sneeze sent him bolting to the house.

Not quite a protection dog yet, or at least as long as any intruder doesn't sneeze we might be safe.

Leo sounds like quite the spitfire! You will never have a dull moment with him around!

I laughed when you mentioned the sneezing, because it reminded me of my Vito! A few weeks ago (just after he hit 5 months) Vito ran for his life at the dog park.... after a teeny-tiny yorkie puppy tried to play with him. Haha!

I'm sure our boys will be more confident yet.
Eventually. ;-)

A Cane Corso SHOULD NOT be afraid of the things you guys mentioned above! You both need to spend a lot of time doing environmental socialization with your dogs and not in a stupid dog park.

Leo sounds like my oldest pup Tsavo who is a ridgeback. He was about 5-6 months old when he learned how to turn the bath water on to take a drink  I had to make sure to leave the master bath closed at all times so I didn't have a flooded house!

Sounds to me like you are doing great with him, he still still a baby and its completely normal to be afraid of new noises. Im sure you dont molly coddle him when he gets a little unsure or frightened of them and let him work them out for himself, therefore building steady and sturdy confidence for his adult life. I would have loved to see his little sneeze jump!

he's just a pup and IMO its perfectly normal to get a little jumpy or unsure of new things. Allowing him to realize, in his own way and in his own time, that there is nothing to be afraid of will allow him to grow without fear.

Everything I have ever read on Cane Corso's, and very many posts on this site all confirm that puppies develope there instincts. If anything Corso's are very fearful as pups and grow out of that when socialized properly. Socialization does not happen over night, and I think either you did not realize that we were talking about young pups, or you are misinformed on the bread.

Or I guess it is possible that all I read is wrong.

I bet Ruger doesnt even need to stretch to turn the taps on or open the cupboards. In fact Kris I bet he can reach things down for you that are too high! :lolbangtable:

LOL MM! He barely stretches for the kitchen tap and now has to bend his head DOWN when playing in the bathroom faucet (Of course, he sits on the floor to do it because if he was standing on his hind legs it would hurt his back to bend that much)! I am sure that he could but he is too lazy and is afraid to actually serve a purpose to the good. LOL He accidentally licked a cupboard open a few days ago and now he is running around opening everything. I cussed him ...Like a dog? LMAO when I walked into one that was open and knocked the shit out of my shin. I think he was amused. :)

They should list "problem solver" on the breed standard, and I don't always think of that as a positive thing. problem solving is actually a misconception in dogs. It should be called problem finder.

I agree, Ben. Ruger is definitely the smartest dog I have ever owned and he pays attention to everything I do and tries to do a lot of mimicking. It is impressive but a real pain in the ass, too! :)

Ahah that's funny ! I know a lot of people who own a corso, most of 'em told me that they totally change their character after 16-18 months ! It's as if they didn't know they are tough and big before that time !

My year old CC Rex just recently learned to turn on the shower as well. He gets his entire face wet (which makes a nice puddle in the bathroom) then he takes off allowing me to notice this mess hours later. I just wish he would turn it back off.

Man, I thought it was a PITA when Zeke learned how to open unscrew all of his puzzle toy treat dispensers. Thanks for the heads up on the faucet. That boy is no longer allowed in the bathroom. Ha Ha Ha!!!

Thanks for the warning of all the wonderful things Elvis is going to learn to do. He has already figured out doorknobs, especially the ones to the bathrooms were the wonderful trash cans are...lol. As to fear, I used to worry about the fear but as we have introduced him to different things, he seems to get over it in one visit. Right now he is almost 19 weeks and the fear factor is not present very often, but when it is, it's usually pretty easy to over come.

Our 4 1/2 month old corso gets into all kinds of trouble. She loves to pull shoes out of a shoe rack, dig in the dirty laundry for socks and bring them to us, and squeeze under the bed to find things. We live in Minnesota and cant wait to have some warmer weather to burn off more of that engery!

With Leo and the sneezing it sounds like somthing our dog would do. She gets scared with loud new noises and we have done tons and tons of socializing. We live in the city and i cant think of a single thing she hasnt seen or done with us. I think for our pup its natural and she will grow out of it.

Like Elvismom said, Leo get's over things in one visit, but it is funny how these fears pop up at such un fearful times.

I just find them so funny.
