Your right about watching him but it's hard to when it is 5:00am dark outside and with a flashlight his head is down and I think he is sniffing I was wondering if eating rocks was because of a medical reason or because he being a puppy

I also don't want to sound harsh, but you were told in posts before to expect to have to supervise 100% of the time. If he's eating rocks and you haven't seen him, how do you know? Is he pooping them out? Are you finding them in his mouth? If so, that's on you. I "didn't see him" is no excuse. You MUST supervise him better. If your attention isn't on him 100% of the time, he needs to be crated for his own safety and tethered to you in the house. If this is the first young puppy you've ever had, then you're learning too. Make it easier on both of you and watch him closely so you can reward all those good behaviors. Doing that will prevent a lot of those behaviors you don't want from ever happening.

Your other dog was 12 weeks old when you got her and you got her from a different breeder. There's a huge difference between 8 weeks and 12 weeks. I would also assume that the breeder of your female worked with her on basic manners and house training, so she came to you ahead of the game. Don't assume your new puppy is not as smart as the female. He's simply younger and each dog learns differently. As difficult as it can be, try not to compare the two dogs.

Would you mind sharing what breeder you bought your boy from? What were the conditions like where he lived? Inside? Outside? If outside, what was the kennel area like? Standing water, etc? What does the diarrhea look like? Not all poops are created equal. Are you worming him with a product from the vet or something purchased over the counter? And I may have misread yet again, but I thought you said you called the clinic on Sunday and were seeing the vet on Tuesday? If I read correctly, that was yesterday. What did the vet say? Did they do a fecal test and check for parasites, giardia, and coccidia? Sorry for all the questions, but they are all relevant to the poop issue.

Do you have any other area you can take him that's maybe dirt and not rocks? I understand it's hard when it's dark out. I'm lucky to have grass, but I would consider maybe removing the rocks from a "potty" area and walking him, on leash, to that area for elimination. It's also a good idea to isolate his potty area from your female's right now. It's possible his loose stools could be due to something like giardia or some other thing that's catchy, unless that's been ruled out. You'd want to keep your female away from his poop for sure.

You absolutely didn't check her out. You found her on puppyfind, he smelled, he has loose stool to name a few. If you found your "breeder" there then I highly doubt anything was known about the dam and sire or the breeding practices. There are too many puppy mills and BYB that are being supported because people aren't educating themselves.

Was yesterday her vet visit? Did the vet check for parasites, giardia, and coccidia? Those are all things that your other dog can get, so I suggest keeping his poop spot in an area that she can't access until you get a clear fecal. I'm sorry to say that any breeder that advertises on puppyfind is probably a byb. Not necessarily a mill, but most responsible breeders have waiting lists and don't advertise on sites like puppyfind. I'm also in Indiana and I know that there are a lot of byb's in the state. If he needed three baths to get rid of the smell, that doesn't sound too good to me. Please do get in to the vet asap, if you haven't yet, and make sure that they do a fecal. Some things like giardia can be difficult to get rid of.

And if your female is great, then why did you not go back to that breeder? Where did she come from? Why travel halfway across the country for a pup from someone else? Since you're having difficulty with your male, I assume your female could use more training...why jump into another pup if you're not doing well with one?

So pretty much, instead of working with your female and waiting a year so you could get more training done with her, you insisted upon getting a second puppy immediately when you were already having problems with the first? It's just a recipe for disaster.

I'll still try to help you if you're having problems, but adding a second puppy to a household with a first puppy who isn't really well trained is just asking for it.

Patience, and waiting until the right time, is of the utmost important when it comes to adding dogs to a household.

Is there no way you can take in a fecal sample before Tuesday? This diarrhea has been going on for a while, it seems. It might be something that you need to treat now, like giardia or coccidia. Those are both things your other dog could get. That would mean double the money and double the vet bills. I'll ask again - has any fecal been done on him? What does the stool look like? Is there mucous or blood in it? Is it just loose? Liquid? Like pudding? The vet shouldn't have any problem doing an in-house fecal for you while you wait since you have an appointment on Tuesday. That, or fit you in earlier.

Please do call and ask to take in a sample. It sounds very much like coccidiosis. You definitely want to at least rule it out. Good luck and please update after you talk to the vet.

What did the vet say when you called? You really, really need to get a sample in. Diarrhea in a young puppy can get serious quickly. Insist on being seen. At the very least insist on taking in a fecal sample. If the vet won't agree, find another vet. This shouldn't wait until next Tuesday.

I agree with the others. Take the poop in a bag to the vet and they can run it without seeing him.

My girls had giardia and it was a nightmare to clear up. They came home fine but within a month or so started with the loose stools. It took us 9 months to clear it up. They would have intermittent loose stools, but I got really good at figuring out that it wasn't due to any other factors. I've spend upwards of $1,500 just to get rid of the giardia between vet visits, fecals to check for it, fecals to see if it's gone and different meds to fight it. We finally got the clear from both of them at their one year checkup. It is no joke and I am certain it is one reason my one girl is not as big as her sister. Yes it could be genetics but it could also be her body not able to absorb nutrients correctly due to the giardia.

I know you probably think we are all being hard on you, but sometimes that happens when you come to a forum and ask people for advice. The folks on this group are very knowledgeable but they will give honest feedback when needed. And just so you know, I did extensive research on PuppyFinder and no actual AKC registered breeders use the site. Like others have said, those breeders have wait lists for the one litter every few years they may have. I can share from my own experience that you may be in for a lot of medical bills with this one.
