Angus in action!

I think I will just continually post new pictures of Angus in this thread, rather than creating new threads each time.

I will try to add ages along with each set of photos.

ALSO, I know Angus is likely a mastiff-Amstaff mix as I'm always getting comments like, "What a nice mastiff you have" or, "Is that a mastiff?" But no one can ever shed light on what type of mastiff Angus might be. I have gotten 1 comment that he looks like a BM, but that's about it. Also, depending on the angle, he looks like a completely different dog!

Jumping ahead in age to about 1 year...

He is quite content to throw his stuffy up into the air by himself so that he can catch it.

He's at about 70 lbs now and 23 inches at the withers. Unfortunately, he's always been a bit on the sickly side and even just recently got over a tapeworm, so he is a bit small. His biological brother, my dad's dog, is up around 90+ pounds right now.

I can definitely see mastiff in these pics that I could see in the other pics. Angus looks very healthy and fit!

Thank you!

For me, the size of his head and his eyes are very mastiff. He does not have the Amstaff/APBT eyes at all and he's over a year old now and has yet to grow into that head of his. I'm amazed that he doesn't topple over sometimes due to the weight of that thing.

His personality is the total opposite of my staffy and APBT, too. They are both very friendly with strangers, whereas as he sees a stranger on his property and he goes straight into protect and attack mode. He's chased a couple of construction workers off of our property because despite me trying to do a proper introduction, he simply didn't like them (and to be honest, neither did I...). We also have people come pick up firewood from our property, so even after an introduction between Angus and the person coming to collect firewood, he follows them around the property giving them the death-glare making sure they don't try anything funny. And boy is he stubborn! It can be the biggest struggle to get Angus to do something on MY terms. He doesn't care about treats, or his toys... if he doesn't want to do it, he's not going to do it. He's slowly learning that I'm probably equally as stubborn when I want to be.:p

My goodness. Hamlet is just about 22" at the withers. I don't have a weight for him, but we think he's right around 50#. Angus is such a handsome boy. I hope Hamlet develops that well, especially in the head and chest.

I wish you didn't live all the way in Canada!

Thank you! Angus has always had a large head and every time he goes through a growth spurt, his head just grows along with the rest of him, so I don't think he will ever officially grow into his head.

Weird, I always thought Hamlet was bigger than Angus for some reason. How old is he again? I just can't get over Hamlet's ears. They're so quirky, I love it.

Ooooh, the play dates that we could have if we lived closer to one another!

Hamlet is 7 months yesterday, I believe. When we first got Hamlet we had distorted guesses as to his size (probably because our other pack members weigh 40# put together soaking wet!). The current weight (~50#) is still a guesstimate, but it's a conservative estimate (he is probably closer to 55, I need him to be weighed this week or next). The withers I measured last week at just shy of 22".

We would have a friggin blast! Hound mix, Angus, Hamlet, and the two pit girls would be a riot together. I wish I had some younger big dogs around for Hamlet. Annie will only play with him when his energy has been drained to match her default level, lol. :)

Oh, okay! So, he still has a lot of growing left in him. Angus went through his last growth spurt about a week before his 1st birthday.

LOL what an eclectic mix of dogs that would be to have all together.

I'm really fortunate that both my girls are super energetic. They wear him out on a daily basis. We often come into the house to find Angus snoring on the couch while the girls will still be outside romping around and having a blast.

Awe, that's too cute about Annie and her default energy level. I can imagine a large, hyper pup might be a bit overwhelming for her!

These pictures were taken this morning.

Thalia and Angus have been inseparable since day 1. Despite the obvious size difference between the two, she mothers him like there is no tomorrow.

When we brought Angus home at 6 weeks, she dug a den in the backyard with 3 different entrances to it. She would take him in there and snuggle with him, groom him and whatever else.

They HAD to share a crate when he was a pup or they would both go ballistic. Even now, I catch them both snuggled up in the same crate. It's really funny when they try to share her crate because he barely fits in it, let alone both of them squeezing into it.

To this day, she grooms him multiple times a day. When they wake up (like in these pictures) she grooms him. When he comes back from being outside, she grooms him and cleans off any dirt/water he's gotten on himself. When he comes back from swimming in their little pool, she cleans him up. Every single day, this is what she does.

It doesn't matter how much he grows, he's still her baby.

Angus is very handsome . I like his color. And he does look very intimidating.
Definitely wouldn't want him following me around with the death glare! ;-)

Thank you! There's something about the brindle colouring that a lot of people find intimidating. He's really just a big baby.

Oh em geee... Thalia and Angus are too sweet.

He definitely has that big baby vibe, but I agree I would not want him inspecting my intentions in your yard! People here either seem drawn to the brindle because it's somewhat dazzling or put off by it because it's somewhat "wild." Either way if it came at me out of the dark I would probably think twice about pushing my luck.
