An Idea Occurred to Me

Hello, all! Apologies for not posting sooner, but every time I logged on I got an acute attack of the "oh god what if I say something stupid" bug. So I just sort of lurked, reading posts and occasionally popping into the chat. Anyway, I'm getting off track. On to the actual point of my post.

I spend a great deal of time on Tumblr (okay, that's an understatement). Being interested in owning a TM someday, I sometimes look in the Tibetan mastiff tag to see if anyone's posted any good pictures or information.

Spoiler alert: they never do. The tag is constantly flooded with the same shitty pictures of Chinese-bred TMs being reposted from Google, or teenagers saying "LOL, IT LOOKS LIKE A POKEMON! I WANT ONE!" Even the precious few blogs dedicated to TMs just consist of people posting pictures of their own dogs. (I'd like to add that there is nothing wrong with that, and I follow a couple of them because I greatly enjoy them.)

I would like to fix that. I'd like to start a blog that contains actual information. Things like training and diet tips, health stuff, how to find a good breeder, etc.. I'd also like to include stories and pictures submitted by actual TM owners, if any of you guys would be willing to help with that.

Anyway, what do y'all think? Any suggestions for content I could include?

Fenris, I totally agree with the online search produce a bunch of repetitive CRAPOLA when it comes to TM's!!!

You REALLY have to sift through to find anything of meaning that relates to raising TM's.
Breeders are advertizing, & there's not many owners, in the USA, so it's a small venue.

I was lucky enough to find some people here who have TM's, some have blogs.
Also found some blogs of people with TM's who aren't on here, I did searches for a couple of weeks to find what little I did find.

This place is pretty friendly & the TM owners here have provided better info than what I've found anywhere else-They are honest about the difficulties on training & don't sugarcoat--

My suggestion would be to stay in contact with small venues like this place that have TM's & offer their experiences, because there aren't many & maybe hook up with some people from TM rescue-maybe they can put you in touch with others who own & rescue/foster & have experience also.

BTW--I say dumb (or honest unthought out) stuff here plenty--most of the people here are very helpful, & even in my stupid moments-people here have been helpful, nothing you said was dumb--

I think many of the chinese bred TM's look awful, they are breeding for a look & I don't think there is any concern at all for temperament.
What's going on with the way they are promoting the TM's in other countries is just AWFUL. I hope that never gets like that here.
So little concern for the TM's well being and just an efffort to exploit for monetary purposes.
The most disgusting thing of all is seeing just how these beautiful creatures are being abused in china, confined to cages, often living in a large cage on a roof top & untrained, unloved.
Why this is even allowed to go on is a mystery to me.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, you guys! My internet access these past few weeks has been spotty, but things seem to have leveled out.

I'm not so concerned with finding information for myself at the moment. I've been doing lots of research on TMs and on dogs in general for months now, and about half my bookmarks are dog-related. :p I wouldn't say no to any suggestions, though! I'm always open to something new.

Really, what I'd like to do is create a good resource for others.

I hope you don't believe that all TMs or even most are treated this way in China. Like all countries including the U.S., there are people that treat animals poorly and people that breed for profit only. However, again like all countries, there are people who care deeply.

The top TM breeders in China do not have animals available to the public and certainly not to foreigners. They are government controlled monasteries and are used as gifts and to preserve bloodlines.

Travel to monasteries in Tibet and look at the TMs. They are nothing like the photos you see. They are serious working dogs and the sale of one is illegal in and out of China.
