Yeah there isn't much justifying it. I am truly amazed at how quickly they are turning up as of late. I'm not really seeing the em in her face though.

I suspect that someone at the shelter knew what a fila was and balked at putting on the card, fearing it would be a death sentence for her. It's a theory that gives me some peace in terms of the intent behind the action. She's, definitely, my girl. I can't move without her being right behind me. In fact, she's curled up on the sofa right next to me right now.
Yes just like previous poster stated it was irresponsible for them to lie about a breed that has such a rustic temperament. Getting a Fila confused with a English Mastiff can prove fatal. These people need to be put on blast for doing this. Even though she is a cross as a rule of dumb treat her like a pure Fila. This way you will be prepared if her temperament get harder with age.

I've seen three or four litters of "Brazilian mastiff" crosses in the spokane washington mastiff puppy ads this season. They never mention a thing about their temp. Right now they still have ads for Neo/Fila and Dane/Fila.

If they didn't really know what a Fila was and relisted her cause they figured that it was unlikely she really was or because they didn't want to market a dog with a breed that has a rep, fine, stupid, but fine. If they actually understood what a Fila is, and STILL deliberetly mis-represented her, sorry, not only is it wrong, but it really is damn near criminal.

I hate that. So far they've not cropped up here, but I figure its just a matter of time.

Mine came from the Spokane area. When the I went to see them they had the mom out if site on the back of the property where I could view at a distance. Seemed weird but ok. Dad was em he was friendly enough. They did not discuss temperament at all. Had I remembered what I had read about them in my teens ( a book by Carl semecic) I would have looked more into the breed. But I took her home knowing anything and not remembering anything other than the breed sounds familiar. She ended up being a hard tempered pup. And is not a dog you want to mess around with. We have to get her shots at the end of the month. I'm not sure who dislikes it more me or the vet.

I got mine up by Sandpoint, I did some research before contacting the breeders and decided to go ahead. I certainly didn't know quite as much as I do now, but I was sure to socialize her as though she might turn out fila-mannered from the beginning. She's definitely a guardian breed, but has a pretty soft temp and loves people. She does have a pretty high prey drive (chases butterflies, their shadows, birds, mice, laser pointers, hunts frogs), and has an amazing nose. Her breeders never said a word about filas, though, and her dam (1/2 EM, 1/2 Fila) was perfectly fine having my friend and I in the house when I went to pick her out and was friendly. Sounds like it was just good luck though.

Good deal we raised ours much the same. I am a highly suspicious person and dont like strangers much myself. So I may have in inadvertently nurtured the fila side and she embraced it. that's my wife's take on it anyway.

I don't see the OEM in her either. About the only comparison I can make to her and my mastiff is her flea-biting, nimbling thing she does on my ears. I'm uploading some more pics. Please excuse the fact that some of them were taken in my bathroom (the light is better in there) and the mess in the living room (I noticed after the fact that my daughter had dumped her hello kitty robe on the coffee table). I tried to get some that show her body, head shape, etc. 20130712_221155.jpg20130712_231402.jpg20130712_231458.jpg20130712_220614.jpg20130712_231458.jpg20130712_220658.jpg

Debra and I like the one where they are nose to nose. So sweet! Let some one try to hurt little girl, not so sweet.

I think she probably does have some em in her as she just turned 9 months old--her birthday is listed as October 18, 2012 on the intake paperwork and she's a good 120 pounds right now. It doesn't matter really. We're treating her as a fila and protecting her from bad situations as she would protect us. I can't really cut her protein as (please don't jump me over this) we are a BARF household. What I really came here to say is I LOVE this girl. I've never had one bond like this. I can't move without her making a corresponding move. I've had to turn my showers into baths; so, she can see me. She pawed at my shower door because she couldn't see me. She cries when I leave. Only drawback--she is a bedhog. She sprawls. I can't say that I've ever had a better dog. I was so angry with my husband for getting another so quickly, but he found the one in a million.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Filas! People don't understand why we will change our lifestyle for a dog but until you own one, you just don't get it.

Please keep us updated. Would love to hear how she progresses.

Theres quite a few of us here who feed PMRaw so I don't think were're going to get upset over a BARF diet!

One other thing, be careful of separation anxiety. You don't want your being away from her being a stressful event. Bloat is a killer in these dogs and I do believe that stress can bring on bloat.
