4 mo. How much food?

My first cane corso, hooch is 4 months old and is weighing in at approximately 27lbs. He is fed earthborn hollistics meadow feast. It suggest 1 1/4 - 2cups a day for his weight range. It just doesn't seem like enough for him. I have been feeding him 3 times a day, totaling 2 1/2 cups. Is that about right or should I feed him more since he is a growing pup. Thanks

Slow and steady growth is key to a healthy mastiff. He looks good in the pic! As long as he is pottying, drinking water and playing normally, he is fine. You should be able to feel the last 3 ribs with little pressure, that's a sign of a fit pup.

The food guidelines are guidelines. Watch your pup's body and if you can clearly see more than 3 ribs, he's too thin and up the food. If the ribs disappear, then reduce the food a little.

Good food choice, BTW

That's probably adult weight guidelines. Puppy servings are 1.5 - 1.75x more.

My 7 mos old eats between 8-10 cups a day, split into morning and evening feedings. Sometimes she has a cup or two for lunch. I feed her Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice Large Breed Adult dog food. She really likes it. Some days she doesn't eat all her food, some days she does. I just watch her body condition, I don't want her too skinny or too fat.

That's a lot of food for a 7 month old pup. You're feeding her what a 3-4 month can eat. Per Diamonds recommended feeding for a 7 month old is about 2 3/4 to 3 2/3 cups per day for 40-60 lbs.

Yes, it's a lot of food. She weighs over 80 lbs now, and she is not too skinny or too fat. I can feel a few ribs and can SEE some ribs when the sun hits her fur just right. I feed her as much as she will eat in 15 mins, no longer. What she does not finish, I pick up.

That's to much food. I feed two cups twice a day to my 6 month old pup. He looks perfect.

Mine is 4 months and she weighs 40lbs,I feed her 3 cups dry kibble with another cup of wet and always wetted with water. I was feeding twice a day but she was eating too much too fast. Had a couple scares with her heaving after eating so I feed her three times a day and she's been fine. When I asked the vet how much to feed her, he said whatever she eats in 20 minutes, they grow so fast it's not something to worry about in the first few months.

Every puppy is different and depending on how they burn calories I don't think there are set amounts just guidelines, mine can't concentrate on eating for longer than 5 minutes. She's too nosy!!!
