My dog was dewormed a week ago today, yesterday i was going to pick up her poop and i saw a worm maybe the size of a rice grain. So now am thinking if the deworming didn't work and i shoul do it againg??, or if it is still the effect from the one already done??. Any opinion, thanks..

Last time I had to worm the dogs I vaugely recall that the vet said it could take a week. I can't swear by that though, its been a while.

I've been told that it typically needs to be done after a couple of weeks because not all of the worms may be in the correct stage for the medication to kill. Also if it looks like a grain of rice it likely is a tapeworm and many dewormers don't kill tapeworms.

If it is tapeworm he is getting it from fleas and until you get rid of the fleas you will continue to have tapeworms. If it is round worm and it was dead I wouldn't reworm yet. If it was alive than I would reworm.

fly larvae also look like worms. If flies have been on the poo, maggots could be left behind. Gross, I know, but I just finished de-pooing the yard so it's fresh in my mind (and on my shoe!).

Thanks all of you for your replies, the worm was alive and kind of flat, and the poop was fresh out of the oven. I think i'll be re-deworming to be sure. Don't think it will hurt??, rigth??.

Just make sure it is food grade. They also make one that is used for cleaning pools, do not use that one.

The DE will eventually kill all intestinal parasites. Just sprinkle a table spoon of it on Kibble or raw meat each feeding. Your dog will get gas and some runs once the parasites start to die. Once the stool firms back up you can ease up on the DE to every other day. The gas will subside unless you feed grains or plant matter. In that case you will always have a gassy dog.
