Why?

Why must dogs be dogs?
It was warmer today then it has been all week, still below freezing though, so I decided to take the dogs down to the off leash to wear off some of their pent up energy. The off leash is next to a river and as we were walking past it Jiggers started asking for a drink. There was water right next to the bank so I told him it was ok. Normally he would just go to the water and drink and that's what it looked like he would do today. Of course if he had I wouldn't be commenting on it. Today just before he started to drink he looked up at me, walked into the river, laid down and then started to drink. When I asked him what he was doing he looked up at me and smiled then went back to drinking. At this point in the walk we are about a 1/2 mile away from the car so guess what happened. Yep all of his feathering froze so everything from his belly down plus his tail had a thin layer of ice. A couple of minutes later he starts to complain about ice in his paws, shocking I know. It's definitely time to go. We get back to the car and Jiggers hops right in, he's cold and wants to leave. Kryten puts his front feet up and then decides that 'no I don't want to leave yet'. I noticed that he was about reverse his direction so now I'm standing directly behind him so that he can only go forwards not back or to the side. 10 minutes later he gives up and climbs into the car. By the time we got home Jiggers had melted and there was a puddle in the back of the car. There are times when I question my sanity in wanting 2 dogs let alone 1 that is incredibly smart and 1 that can be super stubborn.

LOL. Frozen pup and a smartass!! So much for a nice enjoyable trip to the off leash, right? Have you poured yourself a nice strong drink yet? I love the thawing out part of the story. I only have one stubborn dog and I question my sanity regularly. :)

I was laughing the entire time, so it was enjoyable. The frozen pup was defiantly the smartass. The look I got before he went in told me that he knew he shouldn't go in but was going to anyway. With Kryten I just kept telling him that I was more stubborn then he was so he was going to go where I said not where he wanted. He really didn't like it when the GD showed up and he still wasn't allowed to leave the car.

oh i know "the look". Jovo gives me that look just as hes about to roll in a particularly rank dead salmon. It happens Nov/Dec right when its too cold to bathe him. There is no prouder dog than he after one pf those moments. Tail is held high, chest is out, and he prances!
