We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

What's happening with these boys?!

We took Dante out in the forest for a group hiking today, there were 6 dogs and it was an off leash forest, so they were happily running around and all. When we came home we realized that Dantes got swollen and raw testicles and some red rash around one of them. There's also a little bit of rash on his inner thighs and inner hind limbs. We immediately thought of two possible reasons: one being the fact that we're in Canada and snow is just starting to melt so the snow they were running on was kinda stiff and icy, and Dante kept squatting to potty (he tends to potty a lot when out playing in the cold due to excitement and of course, the cold), his testicles might have been frozen or he might have gotten frost bite on them; another reason being that when the dogs were running through the forest his testicles might have got caught on some branches and got an abrasion hence the rash around the testicles and near the groin area. When we felt his testicles and the area around them, he would try to pull away and whine a bit. So we figured he must be in a lot of pain. Since we have a triple antibiotics polysporin with pain relief at home and we always use it for the dogs when they have a rash or cut and it works very effectively, so we thought we should put some on to ease some of his pain so he can at least rest and we will see if it gets any better in the morning. After the cream, Dante was able to sleep for about 3 hours until he woke up and started walking around, we woke up with him at around 3am and it just seemed like he was really uncomfortable. He would just sit there in a weird position and refuses to lay down. He's not whining or anything, but I think he's just in a lot of discomfort.

Has anyone experienced this with their mastiffs before? I understand that we might have to take him to the vet soon if not in the morning, but would you guys be able to give any input before that? He pees fine, no blood or anything. I've attached some pictures of how it looks right now. Thank you guys in advance!

There was no salt on the forest trails, just all snow and ice.. He seems to be comfy now just sleeping in his bed snoring away. I sure hope he's feeling better. When we tried to feel them just now he didn't try to pull away, I think the pain is going away :)

That discoloration isn't normal and the way the redness spreads down the leg looks like cellulitis in humans. I would go straight to the vet this am. Twisted testicle inside from all the play? Infection? Vet.

Agree, Hopefully it is a simple Galding-them getting wet and rubbing against his inner thighs can do that in a bad way!

Thanks for the replies guys. We just came back from the vet and were told that the testicles were swollen due to some kind of trauma meaning he hit them on something, so is the rash. Gave us antibiotics topical cream and oral medication. Told us to get an ecollar or monitor him closely. He hasn't really been trying to lick at it so that's good.
Dante seems to be a bit better now, still uncomfortable though. And his testicles just look dark and red and raw, it's scary, but doesn't seem to bother him as much as before. Hopefully he gets better soon and (fingers crossed) we wouldn't be needing a second opinion. I'll keep you guys updated! Until then, any other input is appreciated :)

Vet told you to put an ecollar on him? Why? Good to hear that it's not cellulitis. Heal fast, Dante!

I was going to say probably abrasions from the icy snow - cutting through the crust can leave some sharp edges....
Glad you got a professional opinion!

Hope it calms down and feels better soon.
