  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

What are your dogs tells, that he or she is serious and do you take them serious?

Anyway, my point is that if you know that a dog is protective of you and your family and has a history of biting while doing it, you should put a muzzle in him when you take him out, no matter what his breed is. But that's just me. To each his own I guess.
I have had 2 dogs that bit someone. One is a dog that has been dead 11 yrs and that dude meant me harm, with a muzzle on she would not have been able to protect my back in the dark. My 2nd, she is 3 and was on leash on her property and he pushed the issue basically cornering us. She protected us, one of the main reasons I have the Filas.

Do you know anything about filas ? Breed traits, what their history is? If my children approached a strange dogs personal property then I'd be okay with them getting growled at. My children know you never ever approach a strange dog anywhere.. public property or private property all the same. Common sense says you never approach a dog without permission from the owner.
Thanks CR....My kids don't approach dogs they have known forever without permission.

accidental bites happen , they've happened to me a few times , they were always my mistake my fault .... legally there is no 6' radius a person is required to stay away from you ........... even in the states , at least in ohio , if my dog bites you , no matter how stupidly you act , if it is reported , they would be deemed a vicious dog and required to be muzzled at all times when they are outside , if it were to happen twice i may very well lose them ......... it's my job to make sure they don't bite anyone . i live in the states and last i knew pitbulls were still banned in my city .... bsl's do get passed ........jmo ....... my dogs bark , and the way i see it , if i'm around they're the least of your worries ....... filas are very cool dogs , some are not meant for just any owner ......
I'm in Va and as long as my dogs are leashed and not running at large all is good for us. I am pretty good friends with the ACO'S and have made sure what can happen and my dogs are still safe. I just wanted all bases covered and what needed to be stressed to my kids. Have no trespassing signs all over my property and the alone protects my dogs on my property. They are not meant for most. LolMy kids have no problems not having many friends over or never having a sleepover. The only friends that can come are the ones who's parents also have or have had Filas. Of course my girls are crated behind a locked door when they come over. My kids understand that if rules are broken their dogs would more than likely have to be killed. Filas only like and tolerate their kids.

Well, good for you and for your kids. I reserve the right to maintain my opinion.
Yes you do, I never stated otherwise. But like you, I too have the right. Along with the right to make sure correct information is given about my heart breed.

Here if the dog bites anyone under ANY conditions ( including protecting property or owner) it gets put down and that's it. If the dog goes after protectrd wildlife or stock it's shot. It can get shot even for "worrying" wildlife or stock. A lot of awesome breeds are banned from import and they'll probably either go extinct here or be subject to inbreed, I don't know which one is worse. The point is, I prefer to bite than to let my dogs do it because I know for a fact that they'd be put down while I probably won't be. Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
That is awful! My little 20lb terrier would be a goner for sure. I lived in a little town a few years back and they could shoot your dog for worrying livestock. Honestly, I understand that. I would feel horrible if my dogs caused harm to someone else's livestock. The wildlife is a little insane, in my opinion. Any wildlife that entered my land was fair game to my dogs. My worst were the English Springer spaniels, then the Dogos.

i was running a horse trail with a dogue i had run that horse trail with hundreds of times if not a thousand times , lots of folks had run by us in the opposite direction over years of running with her , one time a guy ran past us and she jumped over and got him by the forearm ...... it's what i pictured when you described the 6' rule , i can assure you it doesn't apply in ohio ....... the bold underlined parts of the ohio code below are pretty interesting or distressing ...... stupid laws to regulate irresponsible people , and protect the folks who have no common sense from themselves ...... it will get worse , it always does
955.28 Dog may be killed for certain acts - owner liable for damages.(A) Subject to divisions (A)(2) and (3) of section 955.261 of the Revised Code, a dog that is chasing or approaching in a menacing fashion or apparent attitude of attack, that attempts to bite or otherwise endanger, or that kills or injures a person or a dog that chases, threatens, harasses, injures, or kills livestock, poultry, other domestic animal, or other animal, that is the property of another person, except a cat or another dog, can be killed at the time of that chasing, threatening, harassment, approaching, attempt, killing, or injury. If, in attempting to kill such a dog, a person wounds it, the person is not liable to prosecution under the penal laws that punish cruelty to animals. Nothing in this section precludes a law enforcement officer from killing a dog that attacks a police dog as defined in section 2921.321 of the Revised Code.(B) The owner, keeper, or harborer of a dog is liable in damages for any injury, death, or loss to person or property that is caused by the dog, unless the injury, death, or loss was caused to the person or property of an individual who, at the time, was committing or attempting to commit criminal trespass or another criminal offense other than a minor misdemeanor on the property of the owner, keeper, or harborer, or was committing or attempting to commit a criminal offense other than a minor misdemeanor against any person, or was teasing, tormenting, or abusing the dog on the owner's, keeper's, or harborer's property. Additionally, the owner, keeper, or harborer of a dog is liable in damages for any injury, death, or loss to person or property that is caused by the dog if the injury, death, or loss was caused to the person or property of an individual who, at the time of the injury, death, or loss, was on the property of the owner, keeper, or harborer solely for the purpose of engaging in door-to-door sales or other solicitations regardless of whether the individual was in compliance with any requirement to obtain a permit or license to engage in door-to-door sales or other solicitations established by the political subdivision in which the property of the owner, keeper, or harborer is located, provided that the person was not committing a criminal offense other than a minor misdemeanor or was not teasing, tormenting, or abusing the dog.Effective Date: 07-10-1987; 2008 HB71 09-30-2008

as TWW said , ohio is at the forefront of anti-dog laws ........ my x-brother in law kept his sisters filas for a short time , he couldn't do it for long , too much of a risk , too much to lose ......... i realize they're not all like that , but these two were ........

Welcome back. And people need to read the post in its entirety and do their research about breeds, behaviors, DNA before responding. How are those girls doing ?
