What are some tricks your dogs know?

I'm always on the look out to learn new things to try and teach Nova. I wonder, what are some cool things you've taught your dogs? Feel free to share :)

Hahahahaha that is awesome!

I never taught my dogs anything cool. They know just know the basics.

We taught our last EM how to wipe his mouth after drinking water. Well maybe not wipe. More like pushing his face into a towel we hung near his dish.

One of the classes we took Atlas through wanted us to teach a trick by the end of the class. We chose to attempt to teach him to cover his eyes/face with his paw. We failed to ever get him to leave his paw there, so he just frantically throws his paw around his face....

I'm just picturing this laughing! So far besides the basics Nova knows Roll Over... it's funny watching a CC roll :D we are now working on her picking up her own toys... Wish us luck! lol

Good luck! Just whatever you do, don't teach "speak" unless you want them barking at you whenever they're trying to figure out what it is you want them to do, lol.

Not really a trick but I taught my boy that he needs to have his feet wiped off when he comes in the house so he will sit and lift one paw at a time to be wiped, after we do the front he will rock back on his butt so that his back legs will come off the floor to be wiped.

man i need to teach some tricks, zola has her commands down pretty good.... i would love to teach her to smoosh her face in a towel by her water bowl..... usually as soon as I hear her i run over with a towel to wipe her mouth

She also has a toy bin, we have tried to teach her to put her toys away, she does tend to run over with one in her mouth and drop it inside the bin (or just outside the bin on the floor) to grab another one.... but its no consistent

I'm trying to teach a hand signal for "Speak" for Denna. She does know the word (and will try it, at any given occasion)... but I want a hand signal, so when she's watching me pull into the driveway, I can give the signal, so DH knows to come help me unload the car. :)

She's so smart about which car is pulling into the drive, that she just stares and wags her tail when it's one of us (visitors get barked at). I know DH is home from work when I hear the "Thump-Thump-Thump" of her tail from the front room...

When Tony was smaller, we would say, "Tony, are you getting fat?" before weighing him. So when we asked the question he'd run to the scale. That didn't last long though, as he is too heavy for the scale now.

I also taught him to "watch" out the window, because whenever my boyfriend leaves the house, Tony will run to the door and whine or bark. So when the bf leaves, I say "go watch" and Tony will run to the window and watch him get in a car and leave the driveway. If he sees him leave, he makes so noises at all. He is weird lol.

He can also hold a treat on his nose until told "okay!"

Other than that, he just knows the basics.

We teach the usual tricks, but they all seem learn how to open the doors on gates on their own. Which is pretty humorous when a guest uses the bathroom. You'll hear the door knob thump followed by someone yelling "Get out of here"!!!

Scarlett can spin, roll over, crawl, sit pretty (on back legs and lift front), take a bow, and say her prayers. Also, if she looks a little too longingly at our dinner, we can look at her sternly and ask, "Are you begging???" and she hangs her head and walks away.

She LOVED learning new tricks, because she loved the novelty of doing something right and being praised. So she learned extras. :)
