My 9 month old cane corso has had diarrhea for about three weeks now. I've taken him to the vet twice and he has been tested for giardia, carcodioa, dewormed, and given anti diarrhea medicine. All of his tests have come back negative. He has been raw fed since he was three months old with no problems. The diarrhea was dark and smelly, and the vet said there was blood in it. They were recommending an x ray to see if there was an obstruction. Saturday morning my pup vommitted a large, sharp piece of a plastic tube that I noticed he was chewing on about a month ago and some yellow mucus looking fluid. I went back to the vet Sunday with this new information and the vet believes this is what could've been causing the diarrhea all along. She said the timing makes sense, it took two weeks to get to a point where it caused problems and then another two weeks to come back up. She told me to feed him boiled chicken and rice for a week, give him probiotics once a day and Pepcid ac. Today his poop is runny/pasty, but no longer dark. It is beige. Has anyone ever dealt with something like this before? If so, how long will it take for his system to be normal again? He's still very playful and has never lost his appetite, which the vet says is a good sign. He's also picked up 4 lbs, which again vet said was good. Should I get this expensive x Ray or just wait it out?
