Oh, how sweet...thank you for asking.

He's doing pretty well- going for his 3rd water therapy session tomorrow. I really think the combination of warm water, massage, and slow movement through the bouyant water is having a positive effect.

It's going to take a long time to heal, but as long as I see improvement in my boy, even a little bit, I'm good. :)

And he has charmed all the physical therapists at the water place-- he has that effect on the girls, LOL.

Has your vet discussed use of a doggy splint/brace?

One of the vets I talked to did not recommend the brace (although I understand it has been useful for some dogs.)

The research i have done has been about 50/50 in terms of usefulness...

Yup, that is similar to what our primary vet said. One of the folks who used to work for me was/is a vet (and now a human doc). I spoke with her and she was a bit more in favor of the brace in order to prevent the *other* knee from being injured. (later confirmed as a possibility by #1 vet) As it turns out, he only sprained it. But, I have the brace just in case.

BTW, how did Mateo injure his knee? Our dog, Jughead was, uh, getting amorous with Veronica and had a mis-step.

So glad to hear that the handsome boy is showing progress. It does take time and it will feel like an eternity then all of a sudden Mateo will be as good as new!

Hang in there. We think about ya'll daily!

Thanks, ab! It helps tremendously to have your support...especially, you know, when I have my dark moments and I need a proper reality check drummed into my feeble brain.... :)

spear, it wasn't really a "one-time" thing; it came on gradually. First he started slowing down on walks (I thought it was the warm weather), then a slight gimpy walk every now and then, and then a limp when he woke up (but would soon go away), then more of a limp more often...and so on. Finally got it checked and 2 vets concluded that it was a tear (one said partial, one said full.)

So here we are. And hoping for the best possible recovery without surgery, which I do not want to put him through...

Mateo had his first free swim in the therapy pool today! He did well, as I would have expected; he is part waterbug. :)

Thanks, rip! Yes, the girls are always happy to see him, and love on him a lot. :)

I will pass on the squishy kiss to my squishy boy- he will appreciate it!
